Job Summary
The Senior Network Technician provides support for core technology infrastructure; maintains and assists first level support, troubleshooting problems and upgrading network equipment; works in close cooperation with other Drexel networking and systems staff to implement common procedures and solutions that improve network services; works with computer lab and desktop support staff to solve network issues; and documents procedures and instructions as needed.
Experience required:
Ability to lift and move heavy equipment up to 50 pounds as required to install and manage network electronics and servers, power distribution and battery equipment, and vertical / horizontal racks and trays.
Stamina to perform physical tasks in a demanding indoor and outdoor environment. Including walking, climbing stairs and ladders.
Fine motor skills for tasks like running cables and working with small components.
12-15 years experience as a telecommunications or network technician working for any combination of telecommunications carrier, colocation provider, carrier hotel, university or hospital IT department, or other organization where you provide hands-on support for more than 50 data centers or telecommunications equipment rooms.
12-15 years experience making, managing, testing and troubleshooting fiber optic and copper interconnects / patch panel connections.
Ability to work nights or weekends to participate in on-call rotations or to provide emergency service.
Essential Functions
- Assist team with installation/configuration of network equipment.
- Upgrade and troubleshoot network hardware.
- Make onsite visit to customers throughout campus to assist in network problem resolution.
- Collaborate with staff on problem resolutions.
- Understand operation of computer networks.
- Maintain and update current network documentations.
- Survey existing infrastructure and document as needed.
- Keep abreast with new developments and technologies in networking and related operations.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade L. Compensation for this grade ranges from $62,630.00 to $93,950 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
