Hiring Department: Applied Research Laboratories — Space and Geophysics Laboratory (SGL)
Location: Pickle Research Campus, Austin, TX
Weekly Scheduled Hours: 40. Some weekend, evening, and holiday work, with possible interstate/intrastate travel.
Salary Range: $104,000–$140,000+, negotiable depending on qualifications
Purpose: The Space and Geophysics Laboratory (SGL) is seeking a Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator responsible for building, testing, and maintaining database backends, including performance monitoring, troubleshooting, backup, and optimization in an enterprise Linux environment.
Responsibilities:
- Builds, tests, and maintains complex databases
- Owns database security, protection, and data validation
- Monitors database loading and performance, and troubleshoots issues
- Performs database backup, validation, and recovery
- Assists development efforts requiring database access
- Generates database usage reports for growth planning
- Interfaces with development team members regarding application requirements and database programming best practices
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Five years developing and maintaining complex PostgreSQL databases
- Strong Linux administration skills as they relate to the role of a database administrator
- Ability to troubleshoot and fix database errors, analyze database performance, and make performance improvement recommendations
- Must currently hold, or be able to obtain within the first six months of employment, a DoD 8140 compliant security certification (e.g., Security+)
- Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for a government security investigation and access to classified information
Preferred Qualifications:
- Eight or more years of experience developing and maintaining complex PostgreSQL databases
- Front-end database application development experience
- Experience managing databases and related infrastructure in the cloud
- Experience migrating databases from on-prem to the cloud
