As a Senior QA Engineer I or Senior QA Engineer II, you will help ensure the reliability, scalability, security, and operational excellence of the platform capabilities that power Frontline's products and services. You'll serve as a trusted quality engineering partner within Platform Engineering, collaborating across Identity Platform, Core Services, UI Platform, Data Platform, and AI Enablement teams.
This role goes beyond traditional testing. You'll help shape quality strategy, expand automation, improve release confidence, strengthen operational readiness, and contribute to a culture where quality is a shared responsibility. By partnering closely with engineers, product leaders, architects, and designers, you'll help deliver solutions that create meaningful outcomes for educators, administrators, and the communities they serve.
How You'll Drive Success
Quality Engineering & Test Strategy
- Partner with engineering teams throughout discovery, refinement, design, development, testing, and release activities.
- Ensure requirements are testable, measurable, and operationally sound.
- Identify functional, integration, performance, reliability, security, and operational quality risks early in the development lifecycle.
- Develop comprehensive testing strategies and validation approaches that support scalable platform capabilities.
- Contribute to reusable quality engineering patterns, standards, and best practices across Platform Engineering.
- Improve release readiness, operational confidence, and overall engineering quality.
Test Automation & Validation
- Design, build, maintain, and execute automated testing solutions across frontend, backend, API, integration, workflow, and distributed systems.
- Collaborate closely with software engineers to embed automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and delivery workflows.
- Expand automation coverage while improving maintainability, reliability, and execution efficiency.
- Support validation of cloud-native architectures, event-driven systems, and shared platform services.
- Contribute to resiliency testing, operational validation, monitoring verification, and production readiness activities.
Performance & Non-Functional Quality
- Design and execute performance, scalability, resiliency, and operational testing strategies.
- Analyze test results and identify performance bottlenecks, reliability risks, and optimization opportunities.
- Partner with engineering teams to establish measurable quality objectives and operational benchmarks.
- Help drive platform reliability, scalability, and operational excellence initiatives.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Partner with Product Managers, Technical Leads, Architects, UX teams, and software engineers throughout the product lifecycle.
- Participate in design reviews and technical discussions from a quality engineering perspective.
- Communicate testing approaches, quality risks, validation results, and operational considerations effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous learning, shared ownership, and engineering excellence.
- Support and mentor fellow engineers while helping elevate quality practices across the organization.
AI-First Quality Engineering
- Leverage modern AI-assisted development and testing tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, and emerging technologies to accelerate testing, automation, troubleshooting, analysis, and documentation.
- Apply strong engineering judgment when evaluating, refining, and validating AI-generated outputs.
- Use AI to improve productivity while maintaining high standards for reliability, maintainability, governance, security, and operational integrity.
- Champion thoughtful and responsible use of AI across quality engineering practices.

We're hiring for either a Senior QA Engineer I or Senior QA Engineer II. Placement will be determined based on experience, technical expertise, scope of influence, and demonstrated impact.
Senior QA Engineer I
You will typically bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of quality engineering or software testing experience.
- Experience designing and executing comprehensive testing strategies for complex features, APIs, integrations, and distributed systems.
- Strong expertise in test automation and modern quality engineering practices.
- Experience identifying quality risks and improving release confidence within engineering teams.
- Ability to mentor peers and contribute to quality engineering best practices.
- Demonstrated success collaborating across cross-functional Agile teams.
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted development or testing tools to improve efficiency and quality outcomes.
Senior QA Engineer II
You will typically bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 8+ years of quality engineering or software testing experience.
- Deep expertise across functional, integration, performance, resiliency, operational, and automation testing disciplines.
- Experience leading quality strategy across large initiatives, shared platforms, or multiple engineering teams.
- Proven success defining testing frameworks, automation approaches, and quality standards that scale.
- Strong systems-thinking capabilities and experience influencing platform reliability and operational excellence.
- Experience coaching engineers and elevating quality engineering maturity across teams.
- Demonstrated ability to influence technical decisions, release readiness, and quality outcomes across broader organizational initiatives.
- Experience establishing standards for AI-assisted testing and automation practices.
Required Technical Experience for Both Levels
- Strong experience with modern testing frameworks and tools, including:
- Playwright
- Selenium
- K6
- Familiarity with Cypress
- Experience with:
- CI/CD pipelines
- API testing
- Integration testing
- Performance testing
- Event-driven architectures
- Cloud-native distributed systems
- Operational validation concepts
- Experience working within Agile software development environments.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience testing distributed cloud-native platforms built on AWS.
- Familiarity with Kafka or similar event-streaming technologies.
- Experience testing multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
- Experience contributing to quality engineering strategy and automation architecture.
- Familiarity with React application testing approaches.
- Experience with observability, telemetry, monitoring, and operational readiness validation.
- Experience working with geographically distributed engineering teams.
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted or agentic engineering workflows in professional environments.

Compensation & Benefits
The full base salary range for a level 1 is: $110,000-$125,000
The full base salary range for a level 2 is: $110,00-$135,000
