This role has opportunities for technical people management, technical process management, oversight, development, mentoring, and the participation and encouragement of agile practices.
Overview
Are you a software engineer who takes pride in refining and optimizing existing codebases? Do you enjoy diving deep into well-established systems, improving performance, and ensuring stability over the long term? If you're seeking a role that values deep expertise, steady work, and a collaborative environment, we’d love to hear from you.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer 2 to join our team supporting and evolving a mature, mission-critical product. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys understanding how a large, existing system works and making thoughtful improvements over time. This role will be part of a seasoned Agile Scrum team focused on delivering high-quality software without the churn of constant greenfield development.
What You’ll Do
- Analyze, refactor, and optimize complex T-SQL stored procedures and functions in a large SQL Server environment.
- Maintain and enhance a legacy product built with .NET 3.5, improving system robustness and performance.
- Collaborate with QA, Product Management, and other team members to refine requirements and ensure deliverables meet business needs.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (daily standups, sprint planning, retrospectives) as an active team contributor.
- Support production issues, bug fixes and some product enhancements with a strong commitment to long-term system health and user satisfaction.
- Identify opportunities for code and database optimization and implement changes incrementally.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field; equivalent experience
- 8+ years of experience in Software Development
- Expert-level T-SQL skills, with the ability to review, understand, and optimize long and intricate stored procedures.
- Strong knowledge of .NET 3.5, with experience working in mature .NET application environments.
- Strong knowledge of Client/Server technology.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development teams.
- Comfort and interest in working with existing/legacy codebases over building new features from scratch.
- Experience with RedGate tools (SQL Compare, SQL Prompt, etc.) is a plus but not required.
- Solid understanding of software development best practices, including version control, testing, and code reviews.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and passionate about continuous improvement.
Who You Are
- You value stability and are excited by the opportunity to work on the same mission-critical application for many years.
- You enjoy methodically improving systems over time and derive satisfaction from polishing and refining.
- You’re not chasing the latest tech trend—you believe in the importance of long-term ownership, reliability, and product knowledge.
- You appreciate a sustainable work pace and thoughtful development cycles.
