We're hiring for multiple Sr. Software Engineers at either the I or II level to join our Core Services Platform Engineering team.
Core Services teams build and evolve the foundational platform capabilities that power Frontline's products. These shared services enable product teams to deliver customer value faster, more consistently, and with greater reliability. From workflow orchestration and notifications to integrations and reusable application services, you'll help create scalable building blocks that support educators and administrators across the country.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll contribute beyond implementation. You'll help shape technical solutions, influence engineering practices, identify opportunities for improvement, and ensure platform capabilities remain reliable, extensible, and easy for downstream teams to adopt. Your work will directly support Frontline's ability to deliver meaningful outcomes for schools while creating exceptional experiences for both internal and external customers.
How You'll Drive Success
Platform Engineering & Solution Delivery
- Design, build, test, deploy, and support cloud-native shared services and reusable platform capabilities.
- Develop scalable APIs, microservices, asynchronous workflows, and event-driven solutions using TypeScript and modern backend technologies.
- Build configurable and extensible platform capabilities that support diverse product needs across Frontline's ecosystem.
- Contribute to distributed systems leveraging messaging technologies such as Kafka and modern event-driven architectures.
- Support modernization initiatives that improve scalability, maintainability, security, and operational excellence.
- Partner with product engineering teams to improve adoption experiences and reduce integration complexity.
Technical Design & Collaboration
Participate in discovery, refinement, and design discussions to evaluate requirements, identify tradeoffs, and shape practical solutions.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, QA Engineers, Technical Leads, and Engineering Managers throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Contribute to architectural discussions while aligning solutions to platform standards and long-term engineering objectives.
- Communicate technical concepts, operational considerations, and implementation approaches clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Build strong partnerships across geographically distributed and cross-functional teams.
- Engineering Excellence
- Develop high-quality, maintainable, secure, and scalable software solutions.
- Contribute to automated testing strategies, including unit, integration, API, and operational testing.
- Participate in code reviews and provide thoughtful technical feedback that improves team outcomes.
- Support CI/CD automation and continuous delivery practices.
- Contribute to improvements in observability, resiliency, monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational support.
- Promote reusable engineering patterns, platform consistency, and sustainable development practices.
- Mentor fellow engineers and contribute to a culture of learning, accountability, and continuous improvement.
AI-First Engineering
- Leverage modern AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, and emerging technologies to accelerate development, troubleshooting, testing, documentation, and solution exploration.
- Apply strong engineering judgment when evaluating and validating AI-generated outputs.
- Use AI to improve productivity while maintaining high standards for security, maintainability, quality, scalability, and operational integrity.
- Champion responsible and effective AI adoption across engineering workflows.

Senior Software Engineer I
You will typically bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and modern backend development practices.
- Experience designing and building APIs, microservices, and distributed cloud-native systems.
- Ability to independently deliver complex features and services with high quality and reliability.
- Experience contributing to technical design discussions and evaluating implementation tradeoffs.
- Strong understanding of testing, scalability, maintainability, and operational excellence.
- Experience mentoring less experienced engineers and contributing to engineering best practices.
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity while applying sound judgment and validation practices.
Senior Software Engineer II
You will typically bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Deep expertise designing, building, and evolving complex distributed systems and shared platform services.
- Experience leading technical solutions that span multiple teams, services, or platform capabilities.
- Proven success influencing engineering standards, architectural decisions, and platform direction.
- Strong systems-thinking capabilities with the ability to balance immediate delivery needs against long-term platform sustainability.
- Experience mentoring engineers, elevating team capabilities, and improving engineering practices across broader groups.
- Demonstrated success driving quality, scalability, maintainability, and operational excellence across complex systems.
- Experience establishing effective AI-assisted engineering practices and helping teams adopt modern development workflows responsibly.
Required Technical Experience for Both Levels
- Strong proficiency with:
- TypeScript
- Node.js
- Modern server-side frameworks such as NestJS
- Experience designing and building:
- APIs
- Microservices
- Distributed systems
- Event-driven architectures
- Experience with AWS services such as:
- EC2
- Lambda
- S3
- SNS/SQS
- Container-based workloads
- Experience with:
- Docker
- Relational databases
- Kafka or similar messaging technologies
- CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with modern frontend concepts, including React, TypeScript, and component-based architectures.
- Experience working within Agile software development environments.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with .NET-based services and modernization initiatives.
- Experience building platform capabilities consumed across multiple product teams.
- Experience designing configurable and extensible platform services.
- Experience supporting platform adoption and developer enablement initiatives.
- Familiarity with frontend modernization efforts, including Angular-to-React migrations.
- Experience with Kubernetes or container orchestration platforms.
- Experience working within multi-tenant SaaS environments.
- Experience collaborating with geographically distributed engineering teams.
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted or agentic development workflows in professional software engineering environments.

Compensation & Benefits
The full base compensation range for the level I is: $95,000-$125,000
The full base compensation range for the level II is: $130,000-$150,000.
