About the Role:
 
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will take ownership of key systems powering Quizlet’s Trust and Safety infrastructure. You’ll design and implement scalable content moderation, abuse prevention, and policy enforcement solutions that ensure our millions of learners can connect safely and confidently. You’ll collaborate closely across engineering, security, and product to embed safety, reliability, and policy adherence into our platform.
 
We’re happy to share that this is an onsite position in our San Francisco office. To help foster team collaboration, we require that employees be in the office a minimum of three days per week: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and as needed by your manager or the company. We believe that this working environment facilitates increased work efficiency, team partnership, and supports growth as an employee and organization.
In this role, you will:
  • Scale consent and messaging systems to meet new product and regulatory needs
  • Design and deliver backend services for user trust, safety, and compliance features, focusing on risk-based access and anomaly detection
  • Scale consent and messaging systems to meet new product, trust, safety, and regulatory needs
  • Design, implement, productionize, and improve AI-powered solutions to effectively manage and enforce Trust and Safety standards across multiple use cases
  • Lead initiatives that enhance reliability, observability, and performance
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with security, legal, data science and marketing teams
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices
What you bring to the table:
  • 5+ years of backend or platform engineering experience building and operating production systems
  • Strong experience with one or more of Node.js, Go, Python, or TypeScript
  • Solid background in distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, and data pipelines
  • Experience designing and implementing reliable, observable, and maintainable systems, with a focus on safe failure modes
  • Working knowledge of OAuth2, SSO, MFA, and platform security best practices
  • Familiarity with privacy frameworks and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, COPPA, DMCA, Content Moderation)
  • Experience with implementing feedback mechanisms for moderator interactions to facilitate the retraining of Machine Learning models.
  • Familiarity with the integration of multi-modal Machine Learning models for the identification of abusive material across text, image, and other UGC data formats.
  • Experience participating in on-call rotations, incident response, and postmortem-driven improvements
  • Proven ability to deliver complex features end-to-end, from design through production rollout
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
