Senior Success Advisor (District-Wide Openings) Full Description

Position Summary
The Senior Advisor, Student Success provides advanced-level academic, career, and transfer advising to students from entry through completion, with emphasis on complex and high-risk cases. This position serves as a lead professional within the advising unit, providing mentorship, training, and consultation to advising staff. The Senior Advisor applies the Appreciative Advising framework at an advanced level, supports institutional retention initiatives, and represents the advising unit on college committees and cross-functional projects. The role requires elevated professional judgment, policy expertise, and institutional influence.

We are hiring for 11 Senior Advisor positions across multiple campuses:
  • Forest Park: 4 positions
  • Meramec: 4 positions
  • Florissant Valley: 2 positions
  • Wildwood: 1 position

Primary Duties Performed
  • Provide full-scope academic, career, and transfer advising to students, including complex, high-risk, or escalated cases.
  • Apply the Appreciative Advising framework in all student interactions to build rapport, assess strengths, co-create goals, and support student persistence from entry through completion. Model this for the team.
  • Provides academic advising, navigation of processes and systems for all students.
  • Manage complex student situations involving academic standing, compliance concerns, transfer challenges, or significant barriers to progression.
  • Develop and monitor individualized academic plans aligned with degree requirements, workforce trends, and transfer pathways.
  • Facilitate career exploration through assessment interpretation, goal clarification, and alignment of academic programs with career objectives.
  • Guide students in identifying career pathways, labor market considerations, internship opportunities, and experiential learning options.
  • Support students in clarifying career direction and making informed academic decisions that support long-term employability.
  • May assist in the development of resume and cover letter writing, interview, job search, and soft skills.
  • Interpret and apply institutional policies, academic standing standards, and transfer requirements.
  • Conduct proactive outreach and early alert interventions to support at-risk students.
  • Analyze degree audits, transcripts, placement results, and institutional data to guide student progression.
  • Assist students with course selection, graduation planning, and transfer preparation.
  • Collaborate with faculty, student affairs, and academic departments to resolve concerns and in support of students.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in student information and advising systems.
  • Assists in new student orientation.
  • Serve as a resource to students navigating complex academic, career, or personal barriers.
  • Support departmental and institutional retention and workforce-aligned student success initiatives.
  • Serve as a resource to advising staff regarding policy interpretation, case resolution, and best practices.
  • Provide onboarding support, mentorship, and skill development guidance to advisors.
  • Assist in developing and facilitating advisor training sessions or professional development activities.
  • Represent the Student Success Advising department on institutional committees, workgroups, and retention initiatives.
  • Collaborate with faculty, academic leadership, enrollment services, and student affairs to resolve escalated student matters.
  • Contribute to retention strategies and continuous improvement of advising processes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure adherence to institutional standards.
  • Lead and coordinate workshops, group advising sessions, and student success programming, including training other advisors to deliver these services.

Qualifications/Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in advising at St. Louis Community College.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in academic advising, student services, or related higher education field.
  • Experience managing complex student cases.
  • Experience providing peer mentorship, training, or committee service preferred.
  • Master’s Degree is preferred.

Working Conditions
  • Generally works in an office and campus environment.
  • Hours of work per day may exceed 8 hours during peak advising periods
  • Typically includes the minimum of one evening per week and occasional Saturdays
