Job Overview:

We seek an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join our team of more than a hundred software engineers, designers, project managers and software specialists that are smart, creative, and passionate about what they do. Some of our ground-breaking work includes:

As a Senior Systems Engineer you will work as core member of our team to deploy, monitor, maintain and optimize server infrastructure supporting development activities and production applications in a hybrid cloud environment. Our environment includes mostly Windows and a few Linux servers hosting web applications and SQL Server databases. We also leverage AWS services including CloudFront, API Gateway, Lambda and RDS. Our applications require high reliability and high performance and experience high peak demands.

You will work autonomously or with small teams of systems engineers and software developers, taking a lead role in configuring, supporting, and enhancing our complex infrastructure. You’ll need to be self-motivating and ready to take the initiative to identify opportunities and solve problems.

We are seeking a well-rounded IT professional with excellent technical, communication and collaboration skills. A successful candidate would be able to aid the team in technical areas and work cross functionally with our development teams to address any issues with an end-to-end solution. Knowledge and experience in both an on-prem or cloud environment is required for this position.

This is a second shift position; expected hours are 2 PM to 10 PM ET Monday – Friday.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Planning and deploying dynamically scalable, highly available, highly reliable and fault-tolerant systems on AWS and other cloud platforms using various cloud native resources.
  • Deploying, supporting and troubleshooting high availability, multi-server web-hosting environments built on Microsoft Windows Server, IIS, and SQL Server in AWS and On-Prem settings.
  • Configuring and supporting distributed Microsoft Active Directory domains.
  • Managing and supporting virtual machine and virtual desktop environments using AWS Workspaces and Citrix.
  • Configuring and supporting server-based infrastructure built on EC2, EBS, FSx and S3 and serverless infrastructure built on CloudFront, API Gateway and Lambda to host web applications in AWS. 
  • Configuring, managing, and troubleshooting network architecture based on in-depth understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, SFTP, HTTP, HTTPS protocols, AWS Networking services including Load Balancers and Direct Connect, and on-prem network appliances.
  • Automating deployment and maintenance processes using PowerShell, AWS CloudFormation, AWS Lambda functions, and Window batch files.
  • Leveraging monitoring tools, including PRTG, Idera SQL Diagnostic Manager (SQLDM), AWS CloudWatch and other Cloud-based tools, to monitor systems infrastructure and diagnose and resolve operational issues.
  • Diagnosing technical issues efficiently and accurately to avoid or minimize downtime and prevent impacts to clients and then assisting in root cause analysis as part of continuous improvement processes.
  • Communicating with leadership, customers, and peers to prevent errors and improve efficiency.
  • Proactively maintaining documentation of systems/network, troubleshooting guides, policies, and procedures.

Job Requirements:

  • 5+ years working as Systems Engineer with hands-on experience in windows administration and troubleshooting using Server 2019 and beyond.
  • 3+ years’ experience in AWS Cloud environment with EC2, Networking, VPC, CloudFormation, S3/Glacier, RDS, ECS, Fargate, Lambda and other services.
  • Exposure to AWS Security resources like WAF, Shield, Advanced Shield, Network Firewalls
  • PowerShell scripting knowledge
  • SQL Server administration knowledge of SQL 2017 and further
  • Exposure to monitoring tools such as PRTG, AWS CloudWatch, IDERA, Lansweeper for environment health
  • Experience with various deployment automation tools such as Chef
  • Knowledge of IIS (site setup, applications, log monitoring, troubleshooting)
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience within a team oriented, fast paced environment where individual contributions are important to organizational success.
