Position Description
Advertised Job Summary | We are seeking a Security Operations Center (SOC) Analyst to join our university’s cybersecurity team. In this role, you will be responsible for actively monitoring and responding to security events, reviewing and triaging alerts from various security systems, and escalating incidents as appropriate. The SOC Analyst will also contribute to improving alerting mechanisms, support incident response efforts, and assist senior team members with operational tasks and cybersecurity projects. This position is vital to maintaining and enhancing the university’s security posture.
This is an on-site position located on our downtown Columbia, SC campus.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience | Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 1 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials |
Preferred Qualifications | Experience in systems administration, networking, or programming. Experiences with the use of modern systems administration principles such as orchestration, code repositories, and DevOps. Applicable entry level information security certifications such as GSEC or Security+.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities | Excellent written and oral communication skills. Understanding of operating systems to include Microsoft Windows, MacOS, and Linux. Understanding of networking protocols and concepts such as routing, switching, and TCP/IP. Baseline knowledge of information security concepts such as the incident response process, forensics, and intrusion detection.

Job Duty | Security Event Operations: Serve as entry point for security incidents on a rotating basis. Triage events and work incidents through to either escalation or completion. Observe and record efficacy of detection and prevention while on operational duty to create inputs for SRE staff. Assist with student workers in the Security Operations Center as needed.
