Software and Data Engineer Full Description

Job Description Summary

This position is available within the University of Maryland's Division of Information Technology (DIT).

This position will interface with the network engineers day-to-day to design, plan, and implement well-engineered software, network management and service support that enrich the MAX network productivity and reliability as well as support for the DNS "D" root services. The work will include support documentation, support for existing "C" lines of code, support for and expansion of the root server "D" while working closely with the DNS global root operators. This position will establish standard and repeatable solutions to address common software and data requirements. Regularly participate in engagements with network engineers to design, plan, and implement well-engineered software utilities and tools that enrich network productivity and reliability. Regularly participate in conference calls and on emails with DNS root operators and discuss and reconcile disruptions within the global DNS environment and attend their operations meetings. The position will also assist in the support of the MAX server environment that supports the MAX network.

**This position is considered essential and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergency to help maintain the continuity of University services.**

**May be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, or different shifts for extended periods.**

Physical Demands: This position will require the racking and stacking of servers and network equipment on occasion with a maximum weight limit of 50 lbs. Must have the ability to walk short distances and drive a state vehicle.

Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver's license to operate a state vehicle.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Three (3) years of professional network design, research, implementation, and escalation support experience.

Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

Knowledge of core networking design and implementation over the WAN.
Knowledge of scalable networks.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Google Workspace.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service.
