Job Description
Position Overview
The Special Education Coordinator (SEC) is responsible for ensuring that all students receiving special education services at KIPP Tulsa receive comprehensive, compassionate, and equitable support to achieve significant academic gains.
The SEC serves as the primary instructional, compliance, and programmatic leader for special education, overseeing the implementation of high-quality services aligned to IDEA and KIPP Tulsa’s mission. This role combines instructional coaching, compliance oversight, and strategic program leadership to ensure excellence in outcomes for all students with IEPs.

The SEC works collaboratively with the Chief Academic Officer, school leadership, SST team members, service providers, and families to build and sustain a strong, inclusive educational program for all KIPPsters.

Core Responsibilities
1. Instructional Leadership & Coaching
  • Lead and execute a consistent, high-impact coaching cycle for SST teachers and paraeducators aligned to KIPP Tulsa’s instructional vision
  • Conduct observations, provide real-time feedback, and facilitate weekly coaching check-ins
  • Review and provide feedback on IEPs, modified lesson plans, and instructional materials
  • Ensure high-quality implementation of Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) aligned to state standards
  • Support SST teachers in using progress monitoring and assessment data to drive reteach plans and accelerate student achievement
  • Develop and lead professional development for both special education and general education teachers
  • Ensure all teachers understand and effectively implement IEP accommodations and modifications
2. Compliance & Case Management
  • Ensure 100% compliance with IDEA, state, and federal special education requirements
  • Develop and manage the annual IEP calendar to ensure all meetings occur within required timelines
  • Attend and provide feedback on all IEP meetings and documentation prior to finalization in EdPlan
  • Train and support case managers in writing compliant, high-quality IEPs and tracking goal progress
  • Conduct regular audits of IEPs, student records, and compliance systems
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and organized student records
  • Lead manifestation determination meetings and monitor discipline practices for students with IEPs
  • Track and monitor suspension data and ensure compliance with discipline policies for students with disabilities
  • Manage and monitor service providers (OT, PT, Speech) to ensure services are delivered in alignment with IEPs
3. Program Management & Strategic Leadership
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of KIPP Tulsa’s special education program
  • Evaluate program effectiveness using student achievement data and compliance metrics
  • Analyze progress monitoring and assessment data to identify trends and develop strategic action plans
  • Align special education programming with school-wide academic goals
  • Support alignment of grading policies, instructional resources, and intervention systems for students with disabilities
  • Collaborate with the Data Team and school staff to ensure accurate and timely data entry and reporting
  • Stay informed on changes in special education law, policy, and best practices to ensure program excellence
4. Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Manage and develop a team of SST teachers and paraeducators to achieve rigorous outcomes
  • Build strong collaboration systems with general education teachers and school leadership
  • Partner with the Chief Academic Officer to align vision, priorities, and instructional goals
  • Collaborate with the school psychologist, service providers, and related staff to ensure holistic student support
  • Manage the ELL & Special Programs to coordinate ESL and behavior support services
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and student-centered decision-making
5. Family & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build strong partnerships with families through consistent communication and collaboration
  • Ensure families are informed, supported, and engaged in the IEP process
  • Respond to stakeholder concerns with professionalism, clarity, and urgency
  • Promote transparency and trust in the delivery of special education services

Qualifications
Skills & Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Valid Oklahoma Special Education certification required
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in special education, including teaching and leadership responsibilities
  • Deep knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and special education compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated success in improving outcomes for students with disabilities
  • Strong instructional coaching and adult leadership skills
  • Ability to analyze data and drive strategic decision-making
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment

Compensation and Benefits:
This is a Full-Time, 12-month teaching position.
