Special Education Teacher (DHH/VI) - Deaf-Blind Intervener Specialist Full Description

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Position Type: Full-Time / Contract

Pay Range: $45–$95/hr depending on credentials

Why This Role?

Are you a credentialed Special Education professional looking to make a profound, one-on-one impact? We are seeking a dedicated specialist to support a student navigating a recent transition to dual sensory loss. This is not a standard classroom role; you will be the student’s primary connection to the world, providing both Deaf-Blind Intervener support and Specialized Academic Instruction (SAI).

The Impact You’ll Make

As a Dual-Role Specialist, you will act as the student's "eyes and ears," utilizing tactile communication to bridge the gap between the curriculum and the student’s environment.

  • Access & Advocacy: Use tactile sign language and hand-over-hand methodologies to facilitate expressive and receptive communication.
  • Instructional Leadership: Deliver SAI tailored to the student’s IEP goals, ensuring no "dead time" in their educational development.
  • Environmental Mapping: Help the student navigate and "map" their surroundings to foster independence and autonomy.
  • Collaborative Success: Work directly with the District’s Due Process department to fulfill compensatory education requirements.

What We’re Looking For

  • Education: A valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential (Visual Impairments, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or Extensive Support Needs).
  • Experience: Proven experience with tactile communication methodologies (Tactile Sign, Hand-under-Hand).
  • Mindset: A compassionate, patient professional who understands the social-emotional challenges of dual sensory loss.
  • Communication: Strong ability to document progress for compensatory education reporting.

Perks of Joining Tutor Me Education

  • Premium Compensation: We offer top-tier rates for highly specialized roles.
  • Direct Impact: 1-on-1 focus without the administrative burden of a full classroom.
  • Consistent Support: Work with a National Director who understands the nuances of ADR and Due Process cases.
