Job Summary Responsible for working on essential projects related to library catalog maintenance, ensuring the accessibility and usability of library resources. Ensures patrons’ access to a diverse range of materials by performing copy cataloging and creating and deriving records conforming to national and local standards. Works collaboratively with the public services team to provide frontline services to patrons, including but not limited to performing all duties associated with the circulation of library materials, providing general information about the library and campus, answering basic information queries and referring patrons to appropriate services, resources, or library staff. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, data science, archives and records management, or related field. Two (2) years of experience directly related to cataloging practices, tools, and evolving technology. Related work experience may be substituted for educational requirement. One (1) year of related work experience can be substituted for one (1) year of education. For example, a candidate with a high school diploma, GED or state recognized equivalent and six (6) years of experience can be eligible to apply.
Preferred Qualifications | Five (5) years of academic library work experience. Experience working with regular expressions and Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) | Knowledge of regular expressions. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, “Customer Focus” attitude, and ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community while maintaining confidentiality. Detail oriented and capable of managing large amounts of data, maintain detailed comprehensive records, analyze and organize information, and have effective project and time management skills. Proficient in maintaining electronic resource records across multiple databases such as, Worldshare and Alma. Ability to manage e-books and e-journals, including tasks such as deleting duplicates, verifying URLs, and updating volume and issue numbers. Skilled in transferring bibliographic records between databases and verifying series titles and authority records. Ability to copy catalogs and create/edit MARC records in OCLC for newly acquired materials and capable of undertaking various library catalog maintenance tasks, including verifying bibliographic details, resolving discrepancies, and enhancing records. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel (advanced knowledge), Outlook and PowerPoint
