Sr. Instructional Designer Full Description

Overview: 
FWI is building a team to support the Naval Postgraduate School's (NPS) NPS Extended Campus (NEC) and Office of University Communications (OUC). NEC supports NPS graduate-level academic programs through innovative instructional design, educational technology integration, and distance learning solutions. This position will serve as a senior-level instructional design authority, bridging evidence-based learning theory, educational technology, and faculty collaboration to deliver high-quality academic experiences. The Instructional Designer – Senior will provide leadership for course design and development across online and hybrid formats, ensure instructional quality and accessibility compliance, and empower NPS faculty with the tools and training needed to deliver modern, effective graduate education.

Work Schedule and Location:

On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA Responsibilities: 
  • Design and develop online and hybrid courses for NPS academic programs
  • Create LMS course templates and apply evidence-based design models
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility and copyright policies
  • Conduct needs analysis and research on online learning effectiveness
  • Provide faculty training and consultation on course development
 
Qualifications: 
Required: 
  • MA/MS degree in education, instructional design, or relevant discipline
  • 5 years of experience with instructional design, instructional technology, quality assurance, and effectiveness assessment in higher education

Desired: 
  • Experience designing academic content for remote/distance learning. 
  • Deep knowledge of adult learning theories and application to STEM disciplines. 
Proven ability to work independently and collaborate with faculty of varying experience levels.
