The Senior Learning Architect is critical to the implementation and ongoing success of our courses and programs. This individual will drive innovation, advise leadership, and champion improvements to the full lifecycle of online course design, development, and deployment into production using a blend of instructional design skills and deep technical expertise.

The candidate will serve as both a thought leader and hands-on expert in continuously improving the design, learning environment, and user experience of our courses, working across functions and with teams including course development, innovation, academic leadership, and technology teams across Strayer. In addition, this role will identify, maintain, and support complex custom and third-party technologies in the Canvas course room.

Responsibilities include developing optimized, scalable processes for course creation, deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting using technological advancements in alignment with institutional goals; identifying new technologies and testing integrations and tools to verify compliance and ensure an optimal student and faculty experience; creating and adapting design and technical standards to ensure an intuitive, interactive and error-free user experience; and leading complex course projects using instructional design skills and technology expertise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Advise leadership on emerging instructional technologies and andragogical approaches to support strategic initiatives.
  • Create and implement standards to ensure the seamless and intuitive integration of native, custom, and third party technologies into course designs.
  • Identify, evaluate, and integrate innovative learning technologies and third-party tools to meet instructional goals and enhance student experiences.
  • Implement and support complex technologies in the course room.
  • Conduct investigation and rapid mitigation of technical or instructional issues within the Canvas LMS and/or associated course room technologies.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives based on learner analytics, feedback, and industry best practices.
  • Lead complex course projects using instructional design skills and technology expertise.
  • Leverage instructional design skills to create use cases for tools and champion technological advancements in design.
  • Lead change management strategies to ensure smooth adoption of new technologies and processes.
  • Build and maintain courses within the LMS environment according to established style guides and best practices.
  • Interface with Strayer IT department to ensure effective technical updates, implementations and solutions.
  • Serve as a technical liaison between Course Development, Academic Operations, LMS Team, and IT.
  • Train, mentor, and support instructional design and technology teams on technological advancements and integrations. 
  • Promote and maintain a high quality, professional, service-oriented atmosphere among peers.
  • Serve as point of contact with third party vendors to keep Course Development updated about new functionality, tools, and releases.

Job Skills:
  • Deep technical expertise in LMS and course room/instructional technologies.
  • Experience working with and applying AI in educational settings.
  • Keen ability to assess situations, perform root cause analysis and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Successfully performs a variety of tasks in a fast-paced, team-based work environment according to project timelines and budgets.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude for and agility with new technology in a fast-paced ever-changing environment.

Work Experience:
  • Minimum of six years of experience working directly with an LMS (Blackboard/Canvas or similar) and instructional technologies.
  • Minimum of six years of experience in instructional design and educational technology or related fields. 
  • Minimum of six years working in the higher education industry

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Must be able to travel occasionally should a business need arise. For most roles travel would not be common. Travel may involve plane, car or metro. In accordance with ADA policies, reasonable accommodations regarding travel limitations can be provided. Travel will be more common for roles such as Account Executives (25 - 50%), senior leaders (10 – 20%) or Capella Core Faculty (5 – 10%). 
  • Ability to work onsite in Corporate or Campus location (in a typical office environment) may be required based on role. If so, this would include being mobile within the office, including movement from floor-to-floor using elevators or stairs.
