BAE Systems is seeking a Sr. Learning Experience Designer and Analyst to support the Functional Training Team’s mission of delivering impactful compliance training solutions across 15+ functions in the rapidly-growing ES sector.
This role is for someone who is skilled in both instructional design and training operations support activities like LMS administration and reporting.
As a Sr. Learning Experience Designer and Analyst, you will assess learning needs and design and develop content in various formats using instructional design best practices (with a primary focus on e-learning). Advanced skill in authoring tools is required, with knowledge of UX/UI principles and how to optimize design, engagement and comprehension.
Strong communication and project management are also critical. As a key point of contact for mandatory training development requests, you will act as an internal consultant to effectively evaluate and scope projects. You will make recommendations and drive standards that set the right expectations to create engaging, quality training experiences while being sensitive to the business impact of time spent on mandatory training, including advocating for alternate formats or approaches when appropriate. You will manage multiple concurrent projects with a variety of stakeholder groups, addressing both a backlog of content that needs updating and new development.
Additional experience in LMS administration, reporting, governance, workflow automation (using tools like PowerAutomate and/or Airtable), and data and analytics is highly preferred.
This is a role for someone with multidisciplinary experience who is creative yet structured, has high attention to detail, and upholds quality standards in a growing organization focused on innovation through technology.
Primary Responsibilities
Intake & Needs Analysis
- Conduct structured discovery sessions with stakeholders who request new training to clarify objectives/business need and assess whether training is the appropriate solution.
- Gather and analyze existing documentation, training materials, and feedback
- Synthesize findings and summarize recommendations to support design and development efforts. Frame discussions around business impact and maintain a consultative role, establishing a position of expertise to influence stakeholders and ensure learning solutions are effective, even if the final product is a compromise.
- Collaborate with team members to prioritize requests and ensure alignment with broader training strategy.
Instructional Design & Development
- Design, develop, and maintain effective, engaging learning experiences across multiple modalities (e-learning, animated videos, job aids, toolkits, etc.) using an agile approach.
- Contemporize a backlog of existing training to optimize design, duration, and overall quality.
- Work closely with subject matter experts to understand learning objectives and content requirements, translating complex information into clear and compelling learning materials.
- Utilize knowledge of instructional design models, adult learning theory, and learning design principles to effectively structure learning content, including voiceover scripts.
- Assist with editing outlines, voiceover scripts, slide content, or suggesting structure changes.
- Utilize authoring tools like Articulate Storyline, Rise, and Adobe Captivate to build engaging courses, with knowledge of advanced functionality like variables and multimedia embedding.
- Appropriately use graphics and imagery aligned to BAE Systems, Inc. brand guidelines
- Continuously research and integrate the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in instructional design and complementary fields (UX/UI, graphic design, etc.) to enrich the visual and interactive elements of learning content, ensuring it is modern and user-friendly.
- Maintain Functional Training contractor training on SharePoint site.
Project Management
- Establish project timelines, stakeholder roles, and milestones
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines while maintaining high standards for instructional design, learner engagement, and business impact.
- Leverage and manage outsourced vendor projects as needed, ensuring appropriate scope and delivery on time and budget, serving as the point of contact for feedback and adjustments from stakeholders throughout development.
- Ability to strategically problem-solve, proactively seeking solutions through independent research and collaboration with others
- Use learner feedback, engagement metrics, and business performance data to refine and enhance learning solutions over time.
Stakeholder Partnership + Communication
- Ability to work with stakeholders at various levels.
- Serve as a thought partner to business leaders and subject matter experts seeking clarity around performance gaps and development goals.
- Build trusting relationships with internal departments, positioning the value of the training team and encouraging proactive engagement.
- Partner with HQ (Inc. level) LMS team to configure, test, and deploy courses and assignment audiences.
Governance and Continuous Improvement
- Establishes guidelines and recommendations for processes and procedures related to Instructional Design across the ES sector to improve relevance, efficiency, and quality.
- Participate in a variety of peer working groups to both benchmark and influence direction.
- Serve as a thought leader in the Inc.-wide eLearning community of practice.
LMS Administration, Data Analysis, and Support:
- Assist with LMS administration such as course creation and user management
- Troubleshoot LMS issues and escalate to technical support as needed.
- Pull LMS reports and analyze data to inform learning strategy and decision-making.
- Partner with our HQ LMS administrators as needed
- Occasionally craft surveys and perform user research to drive decisions and iterate on existing
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design or a related field—or equivalent professional experience
- 6+ years of experience in learning and development, talent development, or performance consulting
- Demonstrated experience with needs assessment / front-end analysis and instructional design models such as ADDIE.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Experience using SharePoint, MS Teams, and LMS platforms (SumTotal and/or Cornerstone preferred)
- Proficiency in Articulate Storyline (preferred), Rise 360, and Adobe Captivate with an understanding of SCORM and AICC publishing standards.
- Multimedia development using tools like Canva, Camtasia, Adobe Suite, and other digital tools to create learning materials
- Video development using Vyond,
- Strong writing skills, including effective scriptwriting for course and video voiceover.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills at all levels, especially with non-training audiences
- Highly collaborative with the ability to manage multiple streams of work and stakeholders
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Experience supporting technical or operations teams in a complex business environment
- Exposure to learning measurement, evaluation models, or learning analytics
- Experience with project management
- Experience with workflow automation tools (PowerAutomate, Airtable)
- Working skills in HTML and CSS
- Graphic design skills

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $118747 - $201870

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
