HistoSonics is a commercial-stage medtech company advancing the Edison® System, a novel non-invasive sonic beam therapy based on histotripsy. Since receiving FDA De Novo grant for the non-invasive destruction of liver tumors in 2023, the company has progressed beyond initial market entry into commercial expansion, reimbursement momentum, and ongoing clinical and pipeline development. In addition to its current liver tumor indication, HistoSonics is pursuing future indications across multiple applications including kidney, pancreas, prostate, neuro, women’s health, and other significant underserved human health areas, to realize the broader potential histotripsy across multiple disease states and medical specialties.

Location: Remote within Minneapolis, MN. Preferred candidates will reside in or near Minneapolis or St. Paul, MN.
Travel Requirement: Up to 70% travel with overnight stays required.
  
Position Summary (Why this role matters):
The Physician Training Specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality, hands-on technology and clinical education to physicians and other healthcare professionals learning to use the Edison® HistoSonics Histotripsy System. 
This is a customer-facing role for an exceptional clinical educator who can establish credibility with experienced physicians, master complex medical technology, and translate sophisticated clinical and technical concepts into clear, practical instruction. The ideal candidate combines deep ultrasound or imaging expertise with outstanding facilitation, coaching, and hands-on training skills.

Key Responsibilities (What you’ll do):
  • Deliver physician education through the established HistoSonics professional education pathway, including didactic instruction, hands-on system training, ultrasound education, simulation, case-based learning, observation, and other experiential learning activities.
  • Educate physicians on Edison System technology, functionality, setup, operation, treatment planning concepts, procedural workflow, and appropriate use of the technology.
  • Provide expert hands-on ultrasound education focused on image acquisition, image optimization, anatomy identification, treatment planning, and image-guided workflows.
  • Adapt instruction based on physician specialty, clinical experience, technical proficiency, and demonstrated understanding while maintaining established learning objectives and training standards.
  • Provide clear, actionable coaching and feedback that builds physician knowledge, confidence, and proficiency with HistoSonics technology.
  • Develop and maintain expert-level knowledge of the Edison System, software, accessories, ultrasound integration, imaging principles, treatment workflow, and associated clinical workflows.
  • Troubleshoot common system, ultrasound, and training-environment challenges and appropriately escalate technical or clinical concerns.
  • Facilitate physician programs, workshops, simulation labs, case observations, and faculty-led educational experiences at HistoSonics and regional training locations.
  • Partner with physician faculty and cross-functional teams to deliver a consistent, engaging, and clinically credible physician learning experience.

Competencies:
  • Demonstrate strong clinical knowledge and advanced ultrasound or imaging expertise relevant to image-guided procedures.
  • Translate anatomy, imaging, procedural workflow, and treatment-planning concepts into practical physician instruction.
  • Quickly develop and maintain expert-level understanding of complex medical technology, software, imaging systems, and associated workflows.
  • Confidently operate, demonstrate, and troubleshoot sophisticated technology in a hands-on training environment.
  • Adjust instructional approach in real time based on learner needs while maintaining program standards and objectives.
  • Establish trust with physicians and healthcare professionals through clinical depth, preparation, communication, and sound judgment.
  • Prepare and execute complex physician training programs with strong attention to detail, equipment readiness, documentation, and consistency.
  • Support trainer calibration and standardization to ensure high-quality experience across instructors and training locations.
  • Partner effectively with Professional Education, Medical Affairs, Clinical, Sales, Procedure Development, R&D, and physician faculty.
  • Communicate learner, faculty, and field insights that can strengthen physician education programs and resources.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Exceptional presentation, facilitation, coaching, and communication skills with physician and clinical audiences.
  • Strong clinical acumen with demonstrated ability to teach ultrasound, imaging concepts, anatomy, and procedural workflows.
  • Ability to translate complex clinical and technical concepts into clear, practical instruction.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and program execution capabilities with consistent attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of adult learning principles, competency-based education, and hands-on or experiential learning methodologies.

Qualifications and Skills: 
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, allied health, life sciences, or a related clinical field; equivalent relevant clinical education and experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in clinical education, medical device training, clinical practice, healthcare delivery, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ultrasound experience and ability to independently teach ultrasound principles, image acquisition, optimization, anatomy recognition, and image-guided workflows strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience educating physicians or other healthcare professionals in a procedural or technology-based environment.
  • Experience in interventional radiology, surgery, operating room, imaging, or another image-guided procedural setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn, operate, troubleshoot, and teach complex medical technology.
  • RDMS or another ultrasound-specific clinical credential strongly preferred. 
  • Experience with imaging-based enabling technologies, robotics, navigation, visualization, interventional oncology, liver imaging, ablation, or other image-guided procedures is highly valued.
  • Ability to travel by air and automobile up to 70% of the time, including overnight stays.
