Sr. Sales Manager (California) Full Description

Company Overview:
Do you enjoy making a difference in a child's life, transforming education, and evolving learning? Come join Teachstone, the interaction company! Teachstone® was founded in 2008 to deliver the Classroom Assessment Scoring System® (CLASS®) nationwide and around the globe. Developed through years of research, the CLASS observation tool measures the interactions between teachers and children, which have been shown to drive learning and lifelong achievement. Teachstone helps organizations conduct classroom observations and provides professional development so that teachers improve, and children learn more. Our online subscription service, myTeachstone, simplifies CLASS implementation by combining observation data with a robust library of CLASS resources and professional development.

At Teachstone, everything we do is about improving the ways teachers interact with their students. We train coaches and observers, build and deliver online support programs, design professional development – all of it grounded in one proven fact: the interactions teachers have with students have a lasting impact on their academic and developmental success. By helping educators describe, measure and improve their interactions and relationships with students, Teachstone is transforming education nationwide, one interaction at a time.

Role Overview:
The Sales Manager for the state of California is responsible for leading and developing a state level team to drive revenue growth within the state. This role requires a hands-on leader who can coach and mentor sales representatives, refine state sales strategies, and ensure the team meets and exceeds sales goals. The Sales Manager will build strong relationships with clients, identify new opportunities, and work cross-functionally with marketing, partnership success, and product teams to deliver value to customers.

The ideal candidate is an experienced sales professional with a strong track record of success and a deep understanding of California’s early education landscape — including state funding sources, regional and county structures, and key policy drivers. They should be data-informed, customer-focused, and passionate about improving educational outcomes. This individual will play a key role in expanding Teachstone’s impact in California by helping schools, districts, and organizations implement CLASS® and related professional development solutions.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a dedicated selling team in California (in the West Region), ensuring quota and performance goals are met.
  • Develop and execute a California sales strategy aligned with Teachstone’s growth objectives.
  • Coach, mentor, and support sales representatives to improve performance and drive engagement.
  • Monitor sales metrics, pipeline activity, and forecasting to ensure data-driven decision-making.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in school districts, early childhood organizations, and other education-focused entities.
  • Collaborate with marketing to develop targeted campaigns and strategies for regional outreach.
  • Work closely with customer success teams to ensure smooth handoffs and long-term client retention.
  • Identify market trends, customer needs, and competitive positioning to refine sales approaches.
  • Ensure adherence to Teachstone’s sales processes and CRM utilization for pipeline tracking.
  • Represent Teachstone at conferences, industry events, and regional networking opportunities.

Role Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of sales experience, ideally within early childhood education, SaaS, or professional development services
  • Strong understanding of how CLASS® connects to California funding streams (e.g., QRIS, CSPP, Head Start, First 5), policy shifts, and regional ECE decision-making structures.
  • Experience supporting or influencing sales teams; prior formal people management experience is a plus but not required
  • Strong grasp of consultative sales strategies and a track record of building and maintaining customer relationships
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Proficiency with CRM tools (Salesforce preferred) and comfort with sales analytics and reporting
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout California and occasionally to other locations as needed

What We Offer:
  • Fair, Competitive Pay:  We ensure equal pay for equal work, using consistent salary bands based on market benchmarks, reviewed annually. Prior salaries, negotiation skills, or fear of conflict don’t influence your pay.
  • Comprehensive benefits:  We offer a well rounded benefits package to support your overall life balance. Eligibility depends on your role and employment status.
