How you'll contribute to our mission
At Frontline Education, we believe every school thriving. Every community stronger.
As a Senior Software Engineer 2, you will help transform how schools work so every educator and student succeeds. This role sits at the intersection of hands-on delivery and team-facing technical leadership. You’ll write and review code, drive architecture decisions within your team’s scope, and serve as a primary technical partner to Product and Engineering leadership.
You’ll help build reliable, scalable, customer-centered technology that empowers school systems to operate more effectively while keeping people at the center of every decision.
How you'll drive success
Technical Delivery & Architecture
- Design and implement complex, cross-cutting features end-to-end from scoping and architecture through production readiness and monitoring.
- Translate high-level product and architectural requirements into clear, well-scoped engineering plans that deliver quality outcomes for your team.
- Serve as a technical point of accountability for critical modules, features, or services, including production readiness and operational excellence.
Product & Cross-Team Partnership
- Partner closely with your Product Manager to co-define workflows, shape the technical roadmap, and bring a customer-first lens to every feature discussion.
- Coordinate with QA, DevOps, and adjacent teams on shared components, observability, and deployment practices.
- Represent your team’s technical perspective in cross-team forums and flag dependencies early.
Team Technical Leadership
- Act as the day-to-day technical lead for a mixed onshore/offshore team by setting quality expectations, guiding design decisions, and unblocking engineers in motion.
- Lead design reviews, code reviews, and refinement sessions with a focus on elevating the whole team’s output, not just your own.
- Mentor engineers at multiple levels while modeling engineering rigor, ownership, and craftsmanship.
Technical Growth & Impact
- Engage in team-level technical discussions on roadmap direction and platform evolution.
- Balance tactical delivery with long-term architectural considerations, making data-informed trade-offs where appropriate.
- Collaborate with senior engineers on architecture decisions, proactively identify technical debt, and contribute to scalable solutions.
What you bring to help us grow
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent impact in progressively senior technical roles.
- Proven ability to deliver complex features end-to-end in cross-functional teams, including influence over onshore and offshore engineers.
- Strong proficiency in modern full-stack development such as .NET/C#, REST APIs, cloud services, frontend frameworks, or equivalent modern alternatives.
- Demonstrated experience in system design, code quality leadership, and technical mentorship.
- Clear and concise communication skills with the ability to translate technical complexity for both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in SaaS, multi-tenant platforms, or large distributed systems.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, test automation, observability tooling, and cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, or equivalent platforms.
- Track record of driving improvements in engineering processes, standards, or tooling that benefit cross-team delivery.
- Experience working with globally distributed teams.
- Familiarity with the Inspired product model as outlined by Marty Cagan or equivalent continuous discovery and empowered product team frameworks.
- Experience incorporating AI/ML capabilities and AI-assisted development practices into product features or engineering workflows, including LLM integration, AI-powered tooling, or AI coding assistants.
What you'll need to thrive
Level of Influence
- Technical influence within a Scrum team, with growing visibility across adjacent teams and functional areas.
- Technical decisions primarily span features and components within a single team’s scope, with occasional influence on shared services or cross-team interfaces.
Decision Ownership
- Make independent technical decisions within your feature area while collaborating with senior engineers and architects on broader trade-offs.
- Proactively surface complex technical blockers and partner with others to resolve issues efficiently.
Success Metrics
- Delivery quality, predictability, and system reliability across owned components.
- Improvements in cross-team engineering practices, standards adoption, and cycle efficiency.
- Effectiveness in mentoring and enabling engineers to deliver autonomous, high-quality outcomes.
