Your role:

As a senior front-end software engineer on Sharpen, you will build and improve one of McGraw Hill's most innovative learning products, supporting AI-driven web experiences, instructor courseware, and related digital platforms. You will work with engineering, product, design, and platform teams to deliver scalable, reliable, secure, accessible, and engaging user experiences, lead complex technical initiatives, shape front-end architecture, mentor engineers, and deliver solutions across teams.

What You'll Do:

Designs, develops, tests, and maintains user-facing web applications using TypeScript, React, and Next.js
Builds reusable, accessible, responsive, and performant UI components
Integrates front-end applications with GraphQL and REST APIs, working with schemas, generated types, queries, mutations, and subscriptions
Leads complex front-end initiatives and contributes to shared component libraries and architecture
Collaborates with product, design, backend, mobile, platform, and data teams; influences technical decisions across teams
Participates in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical planning
Writes automated tests and champions quality, accessibility, performance, security, and reliability
Troubleshoots production issues and implements durable solutions
Follows compliance, auditability, and change-management practices
Mentors engineers and contributes to continuous improvement, using automation and AI-assisted tools where appropriate

What We Value / What You'll Need:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience
8+ years of professional software development experience, including designing, building, and supporting production front-end applications
Advanced proficiency with TypeScript, JavaScript, React, and Next.js
Strong experience developing component-based UIs and design systems
Experience integrating front-end applications with GraphQL and REST APIs, including Apollo Client and schema-driven development
Experience building AI-driven user experiences or using AI-assisted development workflows
Proven ability to lead complex front-end initiatives and influence application architecture
Experience with automated testing, Git workflows, continuous integration, and Playwright
Strong understanding of web accessibility (WCAG), responsive design, performance, security, and observability
Experience with cloud/AWS services like CloudFront, S3, ECR, EKS, and serverless compute
Experience in a SOX- and/or SOC 2-compliant environment is preferred
