Strategy and Operations Lead, Tutor Full Description

ClassDojo's goal is to give every child on Earth an education they love.

We started by building a powerful network for communication. ClassDojo’s flagship app is the #1 communication app connecting K-12 teachers, children, and families globally. Teachers use it to share what’s happening throughout the day through photos, videos, and messages that make parents feel like they’re there. It’s actively used in over 95% of US schools, reaching over 45 million children in 180 countries, with a team of just around 200 people [1]. We are now beginning to use this network to give kids the best learning experiences in the world, far beyond those a standard school can provide.

We hire for talent density. Our team comprises the most talented, entrepreneurial, and innovative teammates from around the world, with experience in education and large scale consumer internet companies, including Instagram, Netflix, Dropbox, Stripe, Uber, Y Combinator, and more. We’re building a company where the most talented people want to work. We believe you’ll do the best work of your life here—and you’ll pioneer the future of education, too.

About the role:

We’re looking for a Strategy and Operations Lead to drive some of the most important and least-defined priorities within our Tutor business.

This role exists because several critical initiatives—ranging from tutor community engagement to new growth opportunities, early-stage bets, and tutoring quality & safety systems—are currently unowned or fragmented across teams. You will take full ownership of these areas and drive them from idea to execution, ensuring they result in real, measurable outcomes.

This is a high-impact, highly autonomous role. You’ll operate at the intersection of strategy and execution—identifying what needs to happen, creating structure where none exists, and making sure work actually gets done.

You will be responsible not just for launching new initiatives, but also for owning and improving core systems that ensure high-quality and safe tutoring experiences at scale.

What you’ll do:

You will own and execute high-priority Tutor initiatives end-to-end, including:

Build and lead the tutor community

  • Facilitate meaningful knowledge sharing and collaboration among tutors (async and live)

  • Build trust with tutors and serve as a strong advocate for their needs internally

  • Measure and improve tutor sentiment (e.g., NPS, engagement)

  • Establish consistent communication and feedback loops with tutors

  • Translate tutor insights into clear, actionable improvements across the business

Drive new growth initiatives (research → decide → launch)

  • Identify and evaluate new growth opportunities (e.g., homeschool, ESA funding, test prep)

  • Conduct targeted research and synthesize insights into clear recommendations

  • Drive prioritization and decision-making on which opportunities to pursue

  • Launch and validate new initiatives, including setting up pilots and defining success metrics

  • Build scalable playbooks and define clear criteria for scaling, iterating, or stopping

Own tutoring quality & safety systems (AI-enabled)

  • Take ownership of systems that ensure high-quality and safe tutoring experiences

  • Improve existing tools and workflows (e.g., session review, flagging, feedback systems)

  • Define and track key quality and safety metrics, and drive measurable improvements

  • Partner with Product, Data, and Engineering to build AI-enabled tools that monitor and improve quality at scale

  • Design systems that maintain high standards while preserving a fair and supportive experience for tutors

Tutors are the beating heart of our entire operation. Our business and our impact on kids and families are only possible because of our tutors. Supporting them, understanding their needs, and advocating for them are essential responsibilities in this role.

You will work cross-functionally with a high-performing team of operators, data scientists, product managers, marketers, designers, and engineers to grow and improve our business, helping tutors, students, and families thrive.

This is a critical role with tremendous growth potential.

You might be a good fit if:

Have 3+ years of experience in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment

  • Have owned cross-functional projects or initiatives end-to-end with measurable results

  • Are comfortable operating in ambiguity and creating structure where none exists

  • Have strong user empathy and are able to build trust with users or customers directly

  • Can translate user insights into decisions, systems, or product/operational improvements

  • Have experience building or improving processes, tools, or systems that scale impact

  • Thrive in high-autonomy, high-impact roles

  • Are passionate about our mission and care deeply about helping teachers build thriving tutoring businesses through our platform
