Job Summary
The Student Financial Aid Officer II will respond to applicant financial aid circumstances by applying student financial aid policy and federal regulations to individual requests for adjustments to FAFSA data and eligibility issues using a high degree of initiative, discretion, and professional judgment. Supports the university’s successful achievement of enrollment goals. The annual salary for this position ranges from $37,600 to $42,799. The final offer will be based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reviews information concerning individual adjustment requests to FAFSA data including Special Circumstance Forms (SCF’s) and Dependency Change Requests (DCR”s) and determines the appropriate action to take.
  • Follows through with the needed adjustments to applicant data, recalculating the student’s Expected Family Contribution (EFC), and adjusting the student’s eligibility for aid and awards as needed.
  • Counsels applicants in person, via phone, and over the counter as needed.
  • Communicates with applicants through written and oral communications.
  • Responds to emails and requests additional information and/or documentation as needed.
  • Makes and/or adjusts financial aid packages/awards as needed per student requests and/or adjusted application information.
  • Serves as a back-up for other financial aid processes as needed, included but not limited to team duties, SAP appeals review and determination, resolution of exception reports, processing of packaging adjustments, etc.
  • Maintains a current working knowledge and awareness of federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures concerning the application for and awarding of financial aid.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two (2) years of experience in student financial aid, student personnel, or related area in a post-secondary institution or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience in similar role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with PeopleSoft.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must demonstrate a strong customer focus with excellent writing and oral skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex information simply, both verbally and in writing; analytical and mathematical skill along with excellent organization, prioritization and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to collaborate well with team members and perform work independently.
  • Must be timely, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and possess patience, tact, and an ability to function effectively with both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, work under pressure and deadlines, and carry out multiple tasks required.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of discretion while handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Computer literate and skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PeopleSoft and Image Now.
  • Must be comfortable navigating complex computer databases and demonstrate an ability to learn and adapt quickly to change, especially with technology, financial aid process and/or workflow.
