Student Services Generalist Full Description

Job Description

The Student Services Generalist is a member of the Student Services and Strategic Partnerships (SSSP) team. Responsibilities include having a broad understanding of Graduate School and GLC policies, services and amenities; providing excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and other guests who visit the Graduate School, answering questions and making informed and accurate referrals within and outside of the Graduate School as needed; responding to email inquiries; creating content for and updating the digital signage screens in the GLC; assisting with events from concept to completion.

Reporting directly to the Director of Student Services, this individual serves as a hospitable front desk staff member who routinely interacts with a diverse population of students, department personnel, faculty, and others on behalf of the Graduate School to answer their questions and to connect them with resources.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of experience/training; proven ability to quickly learn and communicate policies and procedures; excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills; proven ability in handling confidential information; proven ability to cultivate positive working relationships, foster teamwork, and support collaboration; proficiency in working with computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference given for experience working with graduate students or non-traditional students; familiarity with Virginia Tech resources, policies and procedures; experience responding to customer inquiries via phone, email and in-person.
