Student Success Specialist Full Description

 

General Summary: 

The Student Services Specialist for the School for the Environment will be responsible for providing academic and student services to support students in the AASC (Academic Achievement Student Center) in the School for the Environment. The incumbent is the first point of contact for students considering advancing their education at the University and serves as the primary resource person for providing support for students through their academic journey from interest through completion processes in collaboration with staff and faculty

 

 

Examples of Duties: 

  • Maintains systems of communication for current and prospective students;
  • Assists students in person and via phone and zoom, answering and providing routine information pertaining to academic programs, course registration and academic advising retrieve and respond to voicemail and email;
  • Maintains and enters data into respective databases;
  • Assigns new students to advisors using WISER;
  • Provides support to the director of AASC, the Dean's office and graduate program directors in the completion of projects, including organizing telephone and email advising outreach, distributing flyers and brochures;
  • Assists with SFE related events related to student success and retention (eg. Earth day symposium, open house, welcome days and graduation)
  • Supporting accreditation and other related activities for the SFE;
  • Performs a wide variety of duties in the Office of Student Success and provides assistance with reports and student records; Perform Other duties as assigned

 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree is required;
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience;
  • Knowledge of environmental science, environmental studies or community development is a plus;
  • Knowledge of software applications, including office software and database management;
  • Knowledge of current student development theory and research;
  • Proven ability to work with diverse populations;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently work in a team capacity with a broad range of staff to accomplish departmental and program goals;
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently;
  • Ability to work under pressure and under academic year time frames;
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time;
  • Ability to supervise the work of work-study students;
  • Ability to prepare written reports, correspondence and recommendations;
  • Strong organizational skills and strong attention to detail;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the capacity to work cooperatively with a wide range of individuals;
  • Strong commitment to customer service.
