Job SummarySomerset Community College is accepting applications for a Student Support Specialist II - Tutoring Coordinator position. The home work location will be determined based on the successful candidate, either Somerset, KY or London, KY. This position will provide tutoring and support services to students in areas such as writing, reading, math, science and other subject areas as necessary. This position will also organize and teach workshops for students and faculty on Blackboard, citation styles, test taking strategies, calculators, and critical thinking. The Coordinator will keep up with best practices and trends in tutoring and will ensure tutoring services are provided to all students regardless of location.
Job Duties:•Coordinate College’s tutoring program under the supervision of the Director, and assists in building robust academic support services.
•Provide tutoring and support services for students in their area of expertise, and other subject areas as necessary.
•Serve as a tutor, reading/correcting student work, instructing on areas of improvement, and working one-on-one and in groups with students.
•Coordinate and teaches developmental strategies and workshops on study skill topics.
•Work in conjunction with instructors in all disciplines to provide services consistent with course material, to determine tutoring needs, and to identify qualified learning consultants.
•Recruit, train, schedule, evaluate and oversee learning consultants at multiple locations.
•Oversee consulting services, computer usage and computer troubleshooting in Learning Commons spaces.
•Assist in unit planning; monitors and maintains statistics for usage and assessment.
•Keeps up to date records, materials, budgets and completes regular reports.
•Serve on college/system teams; promotes the programs across the college.
•Requires weekly travel to various SCC locations; reliable transportation required in the event SCC fleet vehicle is not available for travel.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree (related field), and two years related experience, or equivalent.
