Job Summary  | The Sustainability Program Manager is responsible for managing UT Arlington’s Office of Sustainability in its charge to advance campus sustainability goals. This role is instrumental in fostering a culture of sustainability on campus, supporting curriculum development, outreach, and community engagement, and ensuring the university meets its sustainability goals and reporting requirement In addition, the Program Manager will collaborate and build relationships with individuals, departments, and organizations on and off campus to pursue goals in the following priority areas: food and dining, grounds, responsible consumption, transportation, community education, sustainable facilities (water, buildings, and energy), waste, partnership, and outreach.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities  | Develop, plan, coordinate, manage, and implement programs and activities related to campus sustainability- within and outside campus. Maintain and gather data on various programs and initiative like the AASHE STARS report, SIMAP for emissions inventory, sustainability Dashboard, courses, and other rankings and reports. Manage and improve the Waste Management Program (recycling, composting, electronic waste) and explore ways to implement new programs. Collaborate with the Office of marketing and communication to coordinate and/or participate in public relations activities including website updates, brochures, newsletters, and other materials to support the work of the campus. Engage the campus community through outreach and educations programs such as Office Green Teams, Earth day, Campus sustainability month, and engage with students and student organizations. Seek out grant funding for sustainability-related projects and work to apply for those grants and award applications. Perform other related duties incidental to the administrative work of the office such as Procard statements, inventory management, and trainings.
Minimum Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree. Five (5) years or relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience in sustainability and/or environmental science or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience in similar role. Demonstrated experience in sustainability program management, knowledge of and enthusiasm for current sustainability issues and best practices, and ability to share knowledge with various groups. Basic computer knowledge (MS Office 365).
Preferred Qualifications  | Advanced degree such as Masters of Science. Experience promoting institutional sustainability across multiple disciplines/departments. Demonstrated knowledge and administrative experience with college or university campus sustainability initiatives. Project administration and/or leadership experience, preferably related to sustainability in higher education. Grant-writing ability or experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  | Demonstrated skill in the use of spreadsheets, database programs, and word processing programs and basic-intermediate skills in creative programs suits (Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator and/or Photoshop). Familiarity with higher education organizational and operational structures with the ability to objectively think through initiatives’ impact in an institutional setting. Ability to develop an understanding of the long-term strategic vision and planning for the campus and integrate that into the work of the sustainability office. Ability to continually learn about or acquire new knowledge of sustainability. Ability to work independently and collaboratively to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously without daily supervision, delegating tasks appropriately as needed. Ability to build and maintain strategic working relationships with a various range of individuals, groups, and organizational leaders, especially engaging with students and staff. Excellent oral and written communication skills including email communications. Ability to manage data collection and reporting processes for surveys, reports, and publications. Ability to learn and use software including web page maintenance and carbon footprint reporting tools such as SIMAP, data management and organization. High degree of energy and initiative, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated aptitude and motivation to conduct research that guides and informs sustainability strategies – both online and in person through interviews and stakeholder engagement. Must possess strong organizational, time management and project management skills, with the ability to support multiple projects of various types at different stages with emphasis on accuracy and meeting milestones and deadlines. Ability to design flyers, develop newsletters and manage social media accounts for the office. Interest in and academic background in sustainability. Passionate and up to date on behavioral change theory, research, and strategies, able to integrate this into their work/programs, and willing to share this knowledge with relevant stakeholders.
