Systems Administrator 2 Full Description
JOB SUMMARY
The University of Connecticut, Information Technology Services (ITS) Department is seeking a Linux System Administrator to support the Identity and Access Management Team. This position is eligible for a hybrid work model requiring at least 2 in-office days per week. This position works under limited supervision and is responsible for administering and maintaining the IAM teamâs Linux based applications, including CAS, OpenLDAP, Boomi, web servers, and other softwares. Additional duties include Netscaler load balancing configuration and Entra SSO backup support. The successful candidate will be responsible for configuration changes, upgrades, and any future replacements of services. Familiarity with technical infrastructure, application design, and Identity Management best practices are a requirement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides technical expertise for the Identity and Access Management team.
- Analyses, designs, builds, and supports large scale, highly available IAM applications.
- Administers and maintains the servers and systems that support login and Single Sign On Services.
- Configured load balancing and high availability for critical IAM applications.
- Provides guidance and assistance to other team members where needed.
- Ensures systems operate in a secure and stable manner.
- Promotes a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment, working closely with all levels of IAM staff and third-party vendors and teams.Â
- Takes a leadership role in self-education. Maintain a high level of general and specialized knowledge and significant working experience to make informed technical recommendations. Â
- Other related duties as required. Â
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 8 years of related experience; or an associate degree and 6 years of related experience; or a bachelor's degree and 4 years of related experience.
- Demonstrated experience administering Linux servers.
- Experience with Directory Services such as AD or OpenLDAP.
- Experience with common web servers such as Apache, Tomcat, or NGINX.
- Demonstrated knowledge of system design/analysis, scripting, and application support.
- Demonstrated knowledge of server/system automation.
- Demonstrated skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and analysis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with Linux based SSO solutions such as CAS or Shibboleth.
- Experience configuring SSO integrations.
- Experience with Citrix Netscalers or other load balancers.
- Experience with automation using Ansible, powershell, or similar technology.
- Experience administering Java applications on Tomcat and/or JBOSS.
- Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Entra.
- Demonstrated understanding of core IAM concepts.
- Demonstrated understanding of network or host-based firewalls.
