Job Summary
The Center for Information Technology (CIT) at Oberlin College invites applications for a Systems Administrator to provide hands-on support across enterprise server and network infrastructure. Reporting to the Manager of Network Infrastructure, this full-time, 12-month Administrative and Professional Staff position is responsible for advancing major technology institutional initiatives, including enterprise technology modernization, strengthened cybersecurity, and transformative digital experiences that support teaching, learning, research, and student success.

Responsibilities
Role Focus

This role centers on technical excellence, reliability, organization, and collaboration in managing both enterprise systems and network infrastructure.

The successful candidate will bring:

  • At least five (5) years of hands-on enterprise experience

  • The ability to support both systems administration and network administration in a dynamic environment


Core Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain Windows server infrastructure to ensure availability, performance, and security.
  • Support network infrastructure, including switching, routing, firewalls, and connectivity services.
  • Monitor system and network performance, capacity, and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues in partnership with vendors and internal teams.
  • Maintain Active Directory, Group Policy, Windows servers, and application services.
  • Support virtualization, storage, and Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and monitoring solutions. Maintain accurate technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in maintenance windows and occasional after-hours response.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, service-focused IT culture that supports the Oberlin community.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum five (5) years of hands-on experiencein enterprisesystems and network administration
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Active Directory, Windows Server, and enterprise application hosting
    • Virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware) 
    • Enterprise backup and recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam) 
    • Network infrastructureincluding switching, routing, firewalls, VLANs, and secure connectivity
Proficiency inPowerShell, Python, or similar automation tools Solid understanding of:
  • Server and network security best practices
  • Monitoring, logging, and performance optimization 
  • Capacity planning and disaster recovery 
Familiarity with hyperconverged infrastructure and modern data center environments. Demonstrated organizational strength, attention to detail, and documentation discipline. Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team while managing priorities independently. Knowledge of secure remote access technologies and IT security principles.

Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with cloud identity and productivity platforms (Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace, Okta).
  • Experience in higher education or similarly complex enterprise settings.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Compensation includes an excellent benefits package including tuition benefits for eligible children to attend Oberlin College and many other institutions.
