General Information:
The Office of Residence Life at James Madison University is accepting applications for a Technology Manager. The Office of Residence Life is committed to designing and maintaining a caring environment that encourages academic success, respect, personal growth and responsibility to one’s community.

The Technology Manager reports to the Associate Director of Housing Services and supports the mission of the Office of Residence Life by providing technical leadership for the department. The successful candidate will ensure that the central office and ancillary systems, services, programs and processes are organized, efficient and effective and will provide independent guidance and assistance to internal and external customers and clients.

The Technology Manager will be part of the Residence Life team that serves 6,700 residential students on a campus that is continuing to grow. We are a close-knit department with 35 full-time staff members, over 250 student staff members, and 13 summer conference assistants.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides Leadership, Management and Supervision to the Residence Life department for all technology:
  • Provides technical leadership for the Office of Residence Life, managing all technical project requests (I.e., mobile card readers and keyless entry, ai usage), developing technical solutions including writing basic code such as SQL, and collaborating across the department and with relevant technology personnel at the university.
  • Responsible for Residence Life’s cloud-based systems’ management plan.
  • Manages StarRez, eRezLife, IRIS, Boldyn, and Residence Life’s SharePoint systems.
  • Has the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Knows, understands, and supports divisional values. Incorporates these values into daily interactions, decisions, and annual goals.
Resource Management:
  • Coordinates all hardware and software purchasing, upgrades and installations.
  • Maintains 130 systems in our main office and the residence halls.
  • Follows a computer strategic plan for rotating older computers.
  • Works closely with software vendors and procurement for contracts, additional products, and annual cost-to-continue expenses.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders:
  • Works closely with end users of Starrez, eRezlife, IRIS and SharePoint to meet departmental and student needs.
  • Works closely with Boldyn/MyResNet for wireless service provided to all residential students. Acts as liaison with JMU IT and Residence Life’s outside technology partners (listed above).
Serves on Committees:
  • Represents department on various committees such as data governance, technology coordinators, and Bodyn/JMU monthly stewardship committee
Student and Staff Engagement:
  • Engages with residential students as needed, to stay attuned to their ever-changing technological needs.
  • Participates in on-call for residential campus to provide technical support to staff during times of crisis.
 
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated previous professional experience with information technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, implement, and support technical applications and systems and rapidly learn computer software.
  • Experience in applying and interpreting user requirements and applying logical sequencing to improve or change processes.
  • Experience performing project management and systems development life cycle tasks successfully, effectively, and efficiently.
  • Experience working independently with technical staff, software vendors, and users at various levels to investigate and validate all
  • aspects of technical issues and determine and implement solutions.
  • Superior time management skills and experience managing multiple priorities.
  • Interpersonal skills, including excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience communicating with both technical and non-technical individuals.

  • Knowledge of the following: Computer networks, SQL queries/databases, Basic coding, and Microsoft Office
