Job Summary
The TRIO Upward Bound Program at the University of Utah is seeking talented, experienced Tutors to assist in the delivery of an after-school tutoring program to high school students between grades 9 and 12, within the Salt Lake and Granite School Districts. The TRIO Upward Bound Program helps both struggling and gifted students reach their full potential by supplementing the instruction they receive in class and guiding them toward study practices and aides that can help them excel. Tutors work with individual students one-on-one, and occasionally organize group activities for students who are studying the same material. The TRIO Upward Bound team offers compassionate, motivating assistance to students, and tutors are expected to do the same.
Tutoring Schedule:
Monday: Kearns High School 2 PM – 4:00 PM
Tuesday: East High School 3 PM – 4:30 PM
Wednesday: West High School 3 PM – 4:30 PM
Thursday: Highland High School 3 PM – 4:30 PM

Responsibilities
• Meet students at their high school and on campus to review homework assignments in the applicable subject area
• Review recent homework assignments and test scores, then work through problems or questions that the student did not answer correctly
• Give short presentations on the monthly theme, lead activities related to the theme, and lead discussions with students on the theme
• Employ proven study aides to prepare for upcoming tests and quizzes
• Complete a short debrief form after 1-1 tutoring with students to track progress.
• Assist with the management of classroom space at high schools
• Promote a supportive environment for all positive role models and representatives of the TRIO office.



Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are required.

Preferences
• Must have completed a minimum of two years of college, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference given to those in STEM majors
• Must be a responsible individual with good interpersonal skills who enjoys working with students from a wide range of economic, social, and cultural backgrounds
• Be willing to commit 15 hours per week (Including some Saturday mornings)
• Have reliable transportation and be willing to transport students in University vehicles if necessary, take and pass the state driving exam
• Ability to develop positive rapport with students
