Job Summary/Basic Function
Tutor WSU students in writing skills and provide support for student writing needs at the Ogden campus Writing Center as part of the Learning Support department. Tutoring is done on an individual appointment and/or drop-in basis. Availability for appointments is determined by the tutor. We require and provide training in tutoring techniques.


**This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time the pool will expire and applicants will be notified.
Required Qualifications
Must be a WSU student in good academic standing. 

Faculty recommendation or endorsement.

Strong writing proficiency.

Provide a writing sample (See instructions in Notes to Applicant). 

A working knowledge of or interest in learning key writing concepts.

Good listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Willingness to contribute beyond the basic tutoring requirements.

Have completed ENGL 1010 & 2010 or equivalent. 

GPA 3.0 or higher.

1) Fill out and turn in the one-page Writing Center-specific application form that gives me your basic contact information and is the basis for our first discussion/interview. (The Office Assistant may direct you to my office inside the Writing Center or simply show you how to print one to leave if I’m not in.)

2) Visit Claire Hughes, by coming to my office door on the faculty hallway, EH 210. To make sure we meet, it’s best to email for an appointment — clairehughes@weber.edu. I look forward to meeting you. If needed, we can set up a zoom interview.

3) Upon hire, I’ll let you know what to bring when you take the next step of going to the Payroll Office and HR to complete the appropriate documents prior to beginning training and work.
