Job Description  | The Whitman School of Management is seeking a dedicated Career Advisor to guide full-time undergraduate business students through every stage of their professional journey.

In this role, you will lead career advising sessions, develop career education programming, and build relationships with employers, faculty, staff, and alumni to create meaningful opportunities for students. The ideal candidate brings experience in coaching, advising, human resources, recruiting, or a related field, along with familiarity with business industries, strong organizational skills, and a genuine enthusiasm for student success.

This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200 United.
Education and Experience  | Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of previous career coaching, recruiting, placement, project management, and/or similar experience required. Master’s degree is preferred. Experience with the unique needs of business students helpful.
Skills and Knowledge  | Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Previous experience in career services advising across a population from different backgrounds is highly desirable, along with previous experience in employer relationship development. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage multiple demands and priorities. High capacity to meet deadlines, well-developed time management and organizational skills, and discretion in handling confidential information. High levels of accountability, follow-through, and relationship management internally and externally are required. Passion for helping others and thriving being part of a team are essential. Experience in business fields or the ability and intention to deeply learn about the majors and industries are essential. Intermediate technology skills required in Excel, Salesforce, database management, and online platforms are required. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends (employer visits, events) and travel for student events, employer relationship development, and conferences required.
Responsibilities  | Coaching, Advising, Teaching, and Training: Provide career counseling, advising, and coaching to global, diverse, and discerning full-time undergraduate business student population (e.g., career research, resume and cover letter writing, internship and job search strategy, interview preparation, and networking tips). Develop and implement unique career education programming for Whitman undergraduate student population with career center team while utilizing career development theories and modern methodologies. Lead one-on-one and group sessions with students to facilitate skill development and exploration of opportunities; have or gain knowledge of related industries and career paths as well as skills needed for undergraduate business students. Develop and deliver information with a teaching and learning focus in person, virtually, and through online resources based on best practices while addressing emerging student needs. Evaluate gaps in student engagement and skillsets; create and execute plans to establish connections with student population and equip students with necessary competencies.  Outcomes and Accountability: Track, audit, and analyze internship and post-graduation placement outcomes with high attention to detail and accountability according to national reporting standards. Provide thoughtful, thorough, and timely responses and specialize in strategic, proactive outreach to all connected parties. Relationship Development and Employer Relations Support: Partner with employer relations staff, along with additional staff, faculty, alumni, and students, to understand strategic recruiting and hiring needs in support of full-time employment and internship placement of full-time Whitman undergraduate students; convey this information appropriately to students and identify and recommend appropriate candidates for opportunities. Communicate student skills and interests to employer relations staff to impact strategy in creating opportunities for students. Innovation and Strategy: Bring creative ideas to professional development and career readiness for students. Partner in piloting innovative approaches for building partnerships and engaging with students and stakeholders with a mindset for understanding student needs and fields related to business industries; contribute analytical thinking while evaluating program needs.
