The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Executive Director, the Health Education Trainer will conduct regular student and employee training. Trainings are for the staff and volunteers in Alice! Health Promotion, the staff and volunteers within other Columbia Health departments, and students and employees of Columbia University.  Trainings include, but are not limited to, Real Balance Wellness Coaching Training, Mental Health First Aid, Certified Peer Educator Training, Friend2Friend, Naloxone and Fentanyl Test Strip, Responsible Community @ Columbia Workshops, BASICS/MI Training, and About Alice! Trainings.

The Health Education Trainer will be responsible for the coordination, implementation, evaluation, and reporting of these trainings and workshops. This position will work with the Sr. Executive Director and the Director of Direct Services to offer these trainings and workshops. This position will also work with the Health Promotion Specialist - Wellness Coaching to assist with the supervision and ongoing professional development of the Well-being Advocates.

The Health Education Trainer will work across Columbia Health and Columbia University to provide these educational offerings.
This is a part-time remote role with some required evening and weekend hours.

Responsibilities
Trainings and Workshops (70%)
  • As needed, provide training and workshops for Alice! Health Promotion, Columbia Health, and Columbia University. These will include, but not be limited to:
    • Real Balance Wellness Coaching Training
    • Mental Health First Aid
    • Certified Peer Educator Training
    • Friend2Friend for Staff and Faculty
    • Naloxone and Fentanyl Test Strip
    • Responsible Community @ Columbia Workshops
    • BASICS/MI Training
    • About Alice! Training
  • Provide trainings, with the Director of Direct Services and Health Promotion Specialist, on the Wellness Coaching program and for the Well-being Advocates.
  • Partner with the Director of Direct Services and Health Promotion Specialist to implement and evaluate the Wellness Coaching program.
  • Provide training for health education and prevention service providers (e.g., Wellness Coaching, BASICS, Tobacco/Nicotine Cessation, Naloxone, sexual and reproductive health, and health education visits).
  • Assist with the coordination, implementation, evaluation, and reporting of trainings and workshops.
  • Assist with the delivery of health education and prevention services.
Administration (25%)
  • In partnership with the Director, Direct Services and Health Promotion Specialist, provide supervision and ongoing professional development for the Well-being Advocates on wellness coaching.
  • In partnership with the Director, Direct Services and Health Promotion Specialist, provide ongoing professional development for certified peer educators.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Wellness Coaching and Mental Health First Aid.
Perform other duties as assigned (5%)

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required in public health, health education, health promotion, or a closely related field. 
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience, preferably in planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence- and theory-informed health promotion initiatives.
  • Real Balance Global Wellness Services Inc. Licensed WM360°™ Trainer.
  • NBC-HWC.
  • Knowledge of health promotion theory and evidence-informed practice, and the ability to translate and apply that theory with a university population, and the ability to design health promotion initiatives that reflect the social, cultural, political, and economic diversity of students.
  • Demonstrated understanding of college students’ development issues, health needs, and interests.
  • Strong writing, editing, group facilitation, public speaking, and communication skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Strong computer skills required, including PC literacy in a Windows environment, Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to learn technology quickly.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in health promotion/education, public health, or other closely related field.
  • NASPA Certified Peer Education Trainer.
  • Experience with BASICS.
  • Experience in sexual and reproductive health.
