Position Purpose:
The VP of Instructional Design leads our Product and Content teams in designing, developing, and delivering transformative learning experiences that empower our customers. This role is uniquely positioned at the intersection of HR expertise, learning innovation, and product strategy, with a strong external focus. The role will shape the instructional design strategy through a variety of multi-media and classroom-based instruction methodologies such as classroom, virtual, print and hybrid deliveries. Unlike traditional Instructional Design roles, this role is externally oriented—leveraging deep organizational insight to create scalable, high-impact educational learning products for our globally diverse customer base. The role will also include building and mentoring a high-performing team and collaborating cross-functionally. This role ensures alignment with business goals, learner needs, and instructional best practices, while fostering innovation and excellence in content development.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Ensure all learning content meets accessibility, compliance, and quality standards.
· Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of learning programs using data and analytics.
· Stay current with trends in learning science, technology, and instructional design.
Strategic Leadership
· Define and drive the instructional design vision aligned with organizational goals and learner needs.
· Oversee the development of frameworks, standards, and processes for instructional design across modalities (digital, blended, live). Oversee the design and delivery of digital, blended, and live learning experiences.
· Champion learning science, accessibility, and inclusive design principles in all learning products.
Program Development
· Oversee the end-to-end design of certification pathways, including micro-credentials, stackable certificates, and capstone assessments.
· In collaboration with WorldatWork executives, SMEs, industry partners, and academic advisors ensure content relevance and credibility.
· Lead the integration of instructional design with credentialing technologies (e.g., digital badges, blockchain verification).
· Establish and uphold rigorous standards for accessibility, regulatory compliance, and instructional quality across all certification programs, ensuring every learning experience is inclusive, credible, and aligned with global best practices.
Team & Capability Building
· Build, lead, and mentor a team of instructional designers, learning experience architects, and content developers.
· Foster a culture of creativity, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
· Establish performance metrics and development pathways for the instructional design function.
· Develop internal standards for instructional quality, accessibility, and learner engagement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
· Partner with Product, Content, Marketing, and Technology teams to co-create learner-centric experiences.
· Engage with external experts, educators, and partners to bring cutting-edge pedagogical approaches into our offerings.
· Represent instructional design in executive forums and strategic planning discussions.
· Drive thought leadership in certification design and learning innovation.
Innovation & Impact
· Drive the integration of emerging technologies—such as AI, AR/VR, and adaptive learning—to elevate the design and delivery of certification programs.
· Use data and learner analytics to inform design decisions and measure impact.
· Stay ahead of trends in education, edtech, and instructional design to inform strategy.

Requirements
Qualifications:
· Requires a Master of Education degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Technology or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
· 10+ years instructional design and training development experience with multiple platforms and delivery modes, plus experience in a leadership role.
· Experience in a product-led or externally facing education environment preferred.
· Deep understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design, and HR trends shaping the future of work.
· Preferred - experience designing and scaling certification programs or credentialing frameworks.

· Experience with LMS platforms. Proficiency with MS office applications
· Expertise in instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM), adult learning theory, and curriculum development.
· Proficiency with learning technologies and authoring tools.
· Experience working with and managing SME relationships, such as vetting skills and availability for projects that have varying needs, managing expectations and deadlines, and follow through to project completion
· Excellent communication and stakeholder leadership abilities.
Preferred:
· Familiarity with global education standards and localization strategies.
· Thought leadership in instructional design or certification strategy.
· Experience with Articulate Storyline and Studio, Camtasia, Adobe Connect, graphical design applications, and other relevant software.
