Wonders of Physics Program Assistant Full Description

Department Overview:
 | The Wonders of Physics (WoP) is an informal physics education and outreach program run by the UW–Madison Physics Department. The program hosts educational demonstration shows, workshops, and physics museum tours for field trip groups visiting campus.

Schedule:
 | This is an onsite position, working in Chamberlin Hall. The schedule is flexible but will primarily be Monday-Thursday during business hours with the exception of 2 weekends in February during the Physics Department Physics Fair and Annual Show. Priority will be given to candidates who are available February, 7, 8, 14, 15 to assist with various tasks for this annual event.

Strong attention to detail
Experience with Microsoft Outlook Calendar and Google Workspace (including Sheets, Forms, and Slides)
Able to draft professional emails to coordinate logistics
Ability to work independently to complete projects
Dependability

Preferred:
Experience with Adobe Illustrator and InDesign
Experience generating professional slide layouts

 | The Wonders of Physics Outreach Program Assistant will help with a broad range of tasks to help coordinate and prepare for outreach events.
-Cross checking spreadsheets and calendars
-Generating field trip itineraries in spreadsheets
-Preparing and inventorying materials for hands-on workshops
-Designing graphics and slides for events
-Calendar entries for upcoming events
-Communicating logistics with community partners via email
-Placing food orders
-Other various logistical tasks to help outreach programs run smoothly

 Physical Demands:
 | -Lifting up to 30 lb boxes of materials on and off roller carts
-Walking around the building to gather materials
-Standing at a prep station to prepare materials for workshops
-Sitting at a computer to complete office tasks
