Title:
TANF Career Advisor 
Classification: Non-Exempt
 

Scope of Position

Provide case management and career counseling to TANF customers. Provide support and assistance in all areas related to gaining and/or retaining employment and career advancement. Responsibilities: 

Essential Functions

  • Provide individualized assessment of work, family and personal development needs and opportunities
  • Build professional one-on-one working relationships with customers to assist in eliminating challenges that are hindrances to obtaining and retaining employment
  • Conduct intake assessments to create individual employment plans to guide customers on their path to employment
  • Manage a caseload of 50-75 customers
  • Maintain daily contact with caseload to document customer activities
  • Provide referrals to appropriate programs, community service sites or social service agencies when needed
  • Encourage customers to participate in and follow through with planned activities
  • Oversee customer activities and assist with workshop schedules
  • Create solutions to customer attendance problems
  • Maintain organized database of customers and keep detailed documentation of all contacts
  • Follow up with customers to verify and document job placement status
  • Maintain customer files as specified by the contractor and local, state and federal standards
  • Document all participant contacts and activities in case progress notes
  • Assist in the preparation of project reports and file audits as needed
  • Help ensure that positive outcomes and goals are met as required by contract
  • Work with the team on implementing processes that increase customer engagement
  • Become proficient in the CWDS database/tracking system
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications: 

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Career counseling experience
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and document visits and contacts
  • Demonstrated telephone, computer and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain flexibility as needs of contract or contractor require
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, human resources or a related area
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs required
  • Ability to speak Spanish is helpful
  • Vehicle, valid drivers license, and reasonably clean driving record
