Job Description
As Assistant Dean of Students, your primary objective is to ensure that each student adjusts to and thrives within the educational environment. You will work with the Social Support Team to provide supervision, behavior management, counseling, and monitor basic/non-basic needs of students in the school. You will also work with the School Leader, Dean of Students, and Grade Level Chairs to provide maximum support for students, teachers, and parents.
Responsibilities
- Hold consistently high expectations for student behavior
- Assist with lunchtime and after-school procedures
- Ensure that school-wide discipline structures effectively support the school
- Build positive relationships with students, balancing serving as a mentor/counselor
- Exhibit positive rapport with students and staff
- Mediate issues between key stakeholders with warmth and empathy while being demanding and decisive
- Establish and maintain strong communication lines with students and parents
- To perform other duties as assigned by the School Leader or Assistant Principal
- Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school.
- Present during all school transitions
Qualifications
Must Haves:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience working with elementary school-age children
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills, and the ability to motivate people
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community
- Solution-oriented, excellent with giving/receiving feedback
- Flexible and creative with adolescent interaction
- Present and invested, ability and willingness to follow up with students, parents, and staff

Compensation & Benefits
KIPP NJ offers competitive salaries to newly hired lead teachers. Salaries are based on prior experience and in accordance with certification requirements. KIPP NJ offers a competitive salary range of $61,000-$99,000 for Assistant Deans.
