POSITION SPECIFICS
The Smeal College of Business seeks an experienced Academic Adviser to work in a fast-paced, high energy academic environment. Extensive knowledge of university policy and procedures that apply to the matriculation and the academic, personal, and professional development of undergraduate students is required. Key responsibilities of this individual include:
  • Provide academic advising to undergraduate students; guide students in course selection and scheduling; resolve academic problems; monitor academic progress
  • Assess other student needs and make professional referrals
  • Interpret university policies, procedures and curriculum to students and faculty in the college
  • Contribute to advising committees and/or working groups related to areas that may include student success, diversity and inclusion, assessment and evaluation, academic policies and/or staff development

Additionally, other duties include meeting with prospective students and families and participating in various college programs such as New Student Orientation, Admitted Student Events, Spend A Summer Day, and other programs as assigned. This position requires interaction with students, parents, faculty, and various college staff members and may require occasional weekend and evening hours.

The successful candidate will have:
  • Master's degree with a minimum of three years of relevant experience in advising, admissions or other student related roles, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A strong background in academic advising with a proven track record and commitment to serving students with varied life experiences and educational needs
  • Competencies critical to success include excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong attention to detail; commitment to honor and integrity; sensitivity to the needs of others; ability to work independently and as part of a team; effective knowledge of computer applications, and efficiently manage time, balance multiple responsibilities, and adapt to change.

SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $46,400.00 - $67,300.00.
