Academic Advisor Full Description

Overview:

The Academic Advisor plays a critical role within the advising team, providing comprehensive academic support, and guidance to students enrolled at Touro University's NYSCAS.

Responsibilities:

  1. Scheduling and Meeting Management:
    • Utilize Bookings software to schedule all registration meetings
    • Schedule Bookings appointments from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm
    • Book meetings as ½ hour sessions with a 15-minute buffer
    • Maintain a minimum open calendar booking window of 45 days
    • Schedule at least 6 registration meetings per day, and 4 on Fridays or early dismissal days
  2. Communication:
    • Use Touro email and Zoom phone numbers exclusively for student communication
    • Respond to phone messages and emails within 24 hours or the next business day, documenting responses via email or Zoom phone account
  3. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Summarize meeting outcomes in TC1
    • Report the disposition of Academic Alert forms to the Administrative Assistant and other relevant parties within 24 hours or the next business day
    • Maintain contact with all assigned students three times per semester regarding pending issues
    • Document all student conversations in the Notes section of Bookings
  4. Student Advising:
    • Advise students on selecting and determining their academic goals and link these with their career aspirations
    • Inform students about college policies, regulations, and requirements, including majors, minors, and concentrations
    • Counsel students on choosing their programs semester-by-semester in an orderly and sequential fashion
    • Assist students in registering for courses and making program changes
    • Perform graduation checks and inform students about graduation requirements
    • Consult with academic department chairs and staff on programming and scheduling matters
    • Provide assistance in filing appropriate forms and monitor students on academic probation
    • Counsel and guide students with graduate and professional school admissions procedures
    • Prepare and submit appeals to the Committee on Academic Standing
    • Compile lists of potential graduates each semester
    • Work with potential students to inform them about the college and help them decide if Touro is the appropriate college for them and which Touro program can best serve their needs
  5. Student Support and Advocacy:
    • Assist in the orientation of entering students and help them adjust to college life
    • Serve as a case manager for students, assisting with college as well as community and social services
    • Counsel students with personal, family, and academic problems and provide support during stressful transitions
    • Inform students about available services at Touro University and make referrals to other offices within the college
    • Advocate for student rights within the college environment
    • Identify at-risk students and notify relevant parties
    • Refer students to appropriate agencies for additional support
  6. Additional Duties:
    • Perform other duties as determined by the Deans and Directors, noting that some responsibilities may be school or site-specific

Qualifications:

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Proven experience working student recruitment or advising within an educational institution or proven customer service experience in a high pressure environment.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Proficiency in TC1, Tableau, Degree Works, and Bookings.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to student success.

Maximum Salary: USD $68,006.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary: USD $54,404.00/Yr.
