Job Description | Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. Reynolds is seeking an Academic Advisor to support student success through proactive and inclusive advising.
The Academic Advisor will work in person with prospective and currently enrolled students to help them explore and identify career pathways that align with their interests, strengths, and long-term goals. This position plays a key role in supporting students pursuing both academic and workforce programs, offering guidance that goes beyond academics to include non-academic challenges that may impact progress.
The role includes, but is not limited to the following duties:
Guide students in identifying career pathways within academic and workforce programs that align with their interests, skills, and career aspirations. Serve as a vital resource, the Advisor will help students navigate non-academic challenges that may impact their ability to achieve their educational goals, ensuring a holistic approach to student success. Proactively engage students, maintain comprehensive records of outreach efforts and student interactions, and connect students to a wide range of college and community-based support services. Leverage various technology tools to enhance advising services Participate in ongoing professional development and training Support the college’s strategic goals and Flight Path initiatives through student-centered engagement
The Advisor will contribute to a collaborative, inclusive environment focused on equity, achievement, and continuous improvement. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, cultural awareness, and a commitment to helping students reach their full potential.
Special Assignments | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
