Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose
The Walker College of Business Advising Center encourages and supports students as they develop the skills necessary to explore, create and pursue purposeful, realistic educational plans consistent with their academic, professional and personal goals. The Academic Advisor is part of a team dedicated to this mission and responsible for providing a variety of services to business students to assist them with their academic plans and to support and encourage them as they work to achieve their academic goals.
Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree from an accredited institution
• High level of computer proficiency, including Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom, etc
• Ability to quickly learn technical advising tools including, but not limited to, Banner, DegreeWorks, DocuWare, and in-house advising technology
• Evidence of excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong organizational ability and attention to detail and accuracy
• Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and works well in a team environment, requiring the ability to take initiative and work independently as well as collaboratively
• Strong commitment to student success
• Strong commitment to the University’s Strategic Plan

•Master’s degree from an accredited institution in academic advising, student development, counseling, education, or related field
•Student services related work experience
•Proficiency with SCT Banner Student System and DegreeWorks degree auditing system and Fortis File Imaging
•Experience with computerized registration
•Experience interpreting and administering academic policies
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Walker College of Business Advising Center encourages and supports students as they develop the skills necessary to explore, create, and pursue purposeful, realistic educational plans consistent with their academic, professional, and personal goals.

The Academic Advisor is part of a team dedicated to this mission and responsible for providing various services to business students to assist them with their academic plans and to support and encourage them as they work to achieve their academic goals.

In the role of Academic Advisor, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • assisting business students with developing appropriate and realistic academic plans, course selection, and monitoring academic progress;
  • assisting students in academic trouble with strategies for achieving academic success;
  • assisting with planning for semester or year-long study abroad programs;
  • developing and executing programs for new and continuing students to disseminate information about academic programs and policies;
  • auditing the records of seniors to assure all degree requirements will be met as they prepare to graduate; and,
  • providing guidance to faculty and staff on student issues and academic policies. Other duties as assigned.
