Job Description Summary
Organization's Summary Statement:
The Academic Advisor's primary role will be to provide academic advising and advising-related programming for the College, such as orientation, mandatory advising audits, general advising, and degree clearances. The Academic Advisor will work closely with departmental advisors to facilitate the College's dual track advising process. Additionally, the Academic Advisor will provide access to information and referrals for issues regarding scholarships, internships, study abroad, counseling, career, and post-baccalaureate options, and other university-related opportunities and support systems. The Academic Advisor will provide administrative oversight of advising-related processes, including curating documents and databases that highlight student curricular and co-curricular opportunities. The Academic Advisor will assist the Director of Advising in efforts to diagnose areas of improvement in the advising flow and to address these areas. The Academic Advisor will liaise with Undergraduate Education colleagues to support student retention through special advising outreach, programming, and teaching student development courses, and participating in campus committees as needed.
Physical Demands: The Advisor will primarily work with students in the Advising Office. The Advisor will also meet with students over Zoom. The Advisor will be required to sit for periods of time, and may have to attend meetings/programs or conduct presentations across campus.
Preferences:
Master's Degree in Student Affairs/Higher Education, the Arts and Humanities, or a related field
Experience involving administration and program planning
Working knowledge of advising technology
Licenses/ Certifications: N/A
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience providing counseling or advising services.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of best practices in organization and administration.
Knowledge of public relations and marketing techniques.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service.
