Job Summary/Basic Function  | The primary function of this role is to provide holistic support, including academic advising, career counseling, and coaching for students in STEM-NURSING majors. The ideal candidate will offer informative and compassionate support through one-on-one advising sessions and take a proactive, creative approach to designing and implementing events and workshops that promote student engagement, academic success, and personal development. Reports to The Director of Academic Advising.

Minimum Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree Experience supporting students in a college setting.
Preferred Qualifications  | Master’s degree in related field (Higher Education, STEM, etc.) College level advising experience Experience in Higher Education Banner and DegreeWorks (or similar program) experience Proficient in use of social media platforms and website maintenance (Wordpress or similar)

 Job Duties 
Description of Job Duties  | Report to Director of Academic Advising in the Center for Student Academic Enrichment (SAE). Provide holistic advising (academic planning, career counseling, and coaching) to new, returning, and transfer first-year students who are pursuing majors in STEM and Nursing. Provide students with information about alternatives and possible consequences of academic decisions. Proactively contact and meet with these advisees on a regular basis. Design resources and lead workshops and events that foster STEM and Nursing student engagement and success. Work closely with SAE staff to advise new students during all summer and winter advising and registration sessions. Maintain a record of all advising appointments through DegreeWorks notations. Establish and maintain relationships with the Dean, Chairs, and faculty of the College of STEM-N in order to understand and clarify advising expectations. Attend College and Department meetings, upon request. Maintain current knowledge of the degree programs and requirements to aid with student success. Stay current on the various STEM-N majors and SU’s academic policies and resources. Represent the College of STEM-N in speaking to prospective and newly admitted students during campus visits, Open Houses and other associated recruitment events. Participate on committees as requested, especially those related to improving the delivery of student services (e.g., Admissions and Credits, Student Success Committee, etc.) Assist STEM-N students in completing course withdraw forms, course substitution forms, academic change forms, academic appeal petitions, and other forms as required. Work closely with other offices to connect STEM-N students to support services, thereby fostering student success (e.g. Accessibility Services, Student Success Office, Counseling Services, the Academic Support Center) Promote events and opportunities through social media and SU’s RamPulse. Remain a mentor, career counselor, and success coach to all assigned advisees, even after their academic advising shifts to faculty advising. Support SAE Directors on all events and initiatives, as requested (e.g., career fairs, graduate school fairs, orientations, etc.) Participate in all trainings led by SAE Directors (e.g., academic advising, career counseling, and coaching professional development trainings) Maintain and expand a comprehensive database of internship and field experience opportunities for students in the College of STEM-N, fostering partnerships with organizations and developing new experiential learning opportunities. Assist students who drop-in to the Advising Assistance Center, regardless of major. Other duties as assigned by SAE Directors, the Associate Dean of SAE, and the Dean of the College of STEM-N.
