Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position. | Bachelor’s degree. Experience working directly with college age students in higher education (e.g. mentoring, teaching, supplemental instruction, career development, coaching, tutoring or TRIO programs and services). Strong organizational and project management skills. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Experience presenting at local, regional and national meetings and conferences.
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s degree. Five or more years of experience in higher education leading student support/student success programs and initiatives. Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory, assessment, and practices used to foster student learning.
Job Description | The Student Development Specialist II reports to the Director for Peer Mentoring and First-Gen Student Success. Responsible for providing leadership and support for up to 60 Peer Mentors. The SDS II assists with overseeing the day-to-day operations of Peer Mentoring including recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of student staff. S/he will also assist in the development of a Peer Education Program to train undergraduate and graduate students on peer learning, and other success strategies; and assist in establishing and enhancing relationships with other university support services and programs. This position will maintain accurate records of engagement initiatives, partnerships and outcomes. The SDS II will plan and execute academic events, including logistics, budgeting, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
Job Duties | Assist in supervising undergraduate and graduate students who provide student services. Collaborate with the Director of Peer Mentoring and First-Gen Student Success on the integration of peer mentors in US1100 classrooms and assisting with case management for those students identified as at-opportunities. Assist in the development of a Peer Education Program to train undergraduate and graduate students on peer learning, including financial education, and other success strategies. Collaborate on a variety of retention and graduation efforts Assist in conducting assessment activities to facilitate the continuous improvement of program services. Present at local, regional, and national meetings and conferences on the results of University College programs and services. Other duties assigned.
