Job Description:
The New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at ASU is seeking a motivated individual to join our advising team at the West Valley Campus. Utilizing holistic academic advising and support strategies, this position will support undergraduate students in making timely progress toward a degree. They will work as part of a team to increase persistence, retention and graduation rates. This position is located at ASU's West Valley campus with the opportunity for hybrid work as the business need allows.

$50,000 - $54,000 per year; DOE
Essential Duties:
- Provides individual and group academic advising and/or interacts with students in support of academic success.
- Participates in New Student Orientation and any events or efforts associated with onboarding.
- Build rapport and connect with students proactively and quickly.
- Works closely and collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to support academic success.
- Monitors student academic progress and program effectiveness using a variety of technology-based tools (such as degree progress, customer relationship management, and analytics software/tools), and the application of retention-focused strategies, and relevant advising/student development/engagement theories.
- Maintains an openness to new and developing tools utilized across the university to aid in student success and excellent service.
- Able to learn and use multiple systems at the same time (such as student record databases, customer relationship management systems, degree progress tools, appointment systems, analytics software/tools).
- Utilizes collegial, interpersonal skills to communicate effectively in person, via email , and by phone; establishes and maintains effective professional working relationships.
- Proactively monitors student academic performance; addresses, responds to, and works to resolve student concerns, questions, or issues accurately and with empathy; collaborates closely with students to identify all academic options including, but not limited to: degrees, tutoring, counseling, career services, success coaches, extracurricular activities, study abroad program(s), research, and internships; supports and provides counsel to students in selection of options best suited to the student's goals, interests, and skills.
- Acts as a college/department/school representative to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to academic success; attends and/or presents at orientation or recruiting events/activities/workshops.
- Possesses a clear understanding of the larger picture of the college and/or departmental processes and expectations around the utilization of various tools and how they impact the student experience.
- Recognizes and resolves complex issues and/or escalates to leadership with potential solutions and appropriate judgment
- Other duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications:
- Evidence of a bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college or university preferred; master's degree in counseling, higher education, or closely related field
- Direct academic advising experience with undergraduate student populations Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, and methods of evidence-based, academic advising strategies
- Demonstrated knowledge of ASU's academic structure, programs, colleges, departments, and organizations
- Experience in interpreting student needs and determining when to liaise with other university resources Experience in designing presentation materials and evidence of effective oral presentations in group settings
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and use emotional intelligence
- Evidence of professional maturity, discretion, and judgment Experience in applying the principles, techniques, and methods of teamwork, compromise, and collaboration to produce desired outcomes
- Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, faculty, students, administration, and other interested parties
- Experience in rapidly adapting and effectively utilizing new technology, practices, policies, and methods
- Demonstrated ability to think critically and independently, while operating effectively in an organizational hierarchy
- Experience with use of internet-based research tools and Microsoft Office computer applications
- Experience with Salesforce, Peoplesoft, and other student tracking tools preferred
Working Environment:
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and to walk moderate distances to perform work.
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.
- Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
