The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:

Job Description
Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
- Provides individual and group coaching assistance to students using the approved coaching framework, which includes study skills, college success strategies, and subject matter support.
- Collaborates with faculty and staff to develop coaching support and programming that will promote successful outcomes for the students in a variety of courses.
- Plans, designs, and conducts workshops and programming to provide additional academic coaching for students.
- Applies a holistic, solutions-oriented coaching approach to help students identify what they want to achieve, define success measures, and develop the best path toward those goals.
- Guides student-centric discussions that empower students to formulate individualized approaches and solutions to their unique academic challenges.
- Helps students uncover the root cause of academic issues while providing tools and instruction to help students develop the necessary skills and habits for academic success
- Guides students in developing, practicing, and mastering academic tools, skills, and habits that teach students to be accountable for their actions and results.
- Researches and analyzes data related to coaching program use that is used to evaluate student outcomes.
- Collaborates with other professionals within the university to promote a positive, student-obsessed atmosphere.
- Uses technology-based teaching and communication platforms to aid students in the development of competencies.
- Documents and maintains records of coaching interactions with students.
- Aide students with computer software associated with designated coursework.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of the approved coaching model.
- Strong understanding, adherence, and promotion of the tenets of competency-based
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to present information clearly, concisely, and accurately; friendly, persuasive speaking and writing style.
- Possess a high level of self-awareness.
- Well organized - conscientious and thorough with detail.
- Demonstrated ability to customize coaching and tutoring sessions for learners with a variety of needs and educational backgrounds.
- Ability to cultivate trust and safety and show genuine concern for the student’s welfare and future
- Ability to self-manage own emotions and not be overpowered by student's emotions
- Ability to be centered and present during coaching discussions.
- Demonstrated technological competency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (or similar) applications, virtual instructional platforms, and student management systems.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, English, Educational studies, a related field of study or equivalent experience
Experience
- Two (2) years of related work experience of teaching, tutoring, or coaching in a subject area and study skills in post-secondary environment
- Experience working with diverse learners
- Experience requirement may be waived for candidates / incumbents with an advanced degree
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work a student-friendly schedule (evenings/weekends)
- Qualifications, licensure, and certifications vary by degree programs and may be required for some degree programs.
- State and/or federal legislative requirements and/or college accreditation requirements may apply to maintain the necessary credentialing for this role.
Experience in lieu of education
Equivalent relevant experience performing the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements. Generally, equivalent relevant experience is defined as 1 year of experience for 1 year of education and is the discretion of the hiring manager.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field of study
- Coaching Certification
- Experience working in an academic coaching center in a higher education environment
- Bilingual
- Experience working with traditional and non-traditional college students and students with disabilities
- Experience with distance education and distance learning students
Position & Application Details
