The basics of this position:
The Specialist, Academic Support fosters student success by providing comprehensive support through academic coaching services, personalized and group assistance to enhance academic skills and overall performance. This role collaborates with faculty, tutoring services, and academic advisors to identify both campus-based and distance-learning students in need of support, particularly those who are academically at risk. The Specialist helps students develop sustainable academic success habits, implement intervention strategies, and monitor progress toward achieving their academic goals. Additionally, this position involves developing and delivering educational resources, such as workshops and seminars, to strengthen essential learning strategies and promote effective study habits. The Specialist maintains comprehensive records, promotes student engagement, and contributes to institutional reporting while integrating best practices and innovative techniques to meet diverse learning needs. Staying current with emerging trends and technologies in both online and campus-based learning environments, the Specialist ensures the effective support of all students. 
Through these efforts, the Specialist creates a supportive academic environment that drives student retention, growth, and achievement.

What you'll do:
  • • Develops and implements academic support services to enhance retention and graduation rates for both campus-based students and distance learners.
    • Provides individualized and small-group academic coaching, both in-person and virtually, to first-year students, distance learners, and academically at-risk students, fostering fundamental academic skills through direct pedagogies and effective learning strategies.
    • Creates personalized achievement and learning plans, guiding students in developing transferable skills such as time management, study strategies, schedule planning, and effective utilization of campus resources.
    • Designs and facilitates academic success plans tailored to students with unique learning needs.
    • Serves as the primary contact for at-risk student populations, offering early interventions and targeted support.
    • Connects students with academic support services, tutoring centers, and pathway programs to promote academic success.
    • Develops and delivers campus-based, live virtual, and prerecorded student success workshops focused on academic and personal development.
    • Communicates timely updates, reports, and progress assessments to supervisors and team members.
    • Analyzes and recommends strategies for data collection, retention initiatives, and program improvements to enhance student success outcomes.
    • Maintains accurate data records, evaluates student progress, and assesses program effectiveness for continuous improvement.
    • Oversee and upholds department policies, procedures, and daily operations to ensure program efficiency.
    • Promotes academic support services through orientations, campus partnerships, and outreach initiatives.
    • Complete all mandatory staff and campus training sessions to stay current on best practices and institutional policies.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, experience, and other requirements: 
• Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution required.
• Three (3) years of full-time experience in academic coaching, student support services, tutoring, or a related role in higher education.
