The Accessibility Engineer will be instrumental in ensuring that Savvas products are fully compliant with our accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and provide a user-friendly experience for students and educators with disabilities.
 
Specifically, this role will serve as the primary technical liaison between the Accessibility Team and our Platform and LXD colleagues for implementing and maintaining accessibility compliance as a part of our overall Realize user experience.
 
The contributions from this position are pivotal to our commitment to promoting inclusivity in K-12 education and will greatly influence the development, delivery, and continuous enhancement of our educational tools. 
 
Responsibilities
The successful candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and demonstrate the ability to prioritize and multi-task a variety of demanding assignments.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and developers to incorporate accessibility from the beginning stages of platform and product development
  • Support LXD in developing and maintaining an accessible UI component library
  • Conduct and facilitate accessibility audits and user testing, identify barriers in the product experience, and propose specific accessibility fixes to mitigate them
  • Assist development teams in integrating accessibility into their unit testing, QA processes, and end-to-end testing
  • Actively participate in code requirements, design and review to ensure that output adheres to strict standards for accessibility
  • Maintain exemplars, accessibility documentation, and guidance for teams to develop accessible code
  • Deliver training to development teams and vendors on accessible markup and code
  • Keep up to date with the latest technical and end-user developments in the field of accessibility
 
Qualifications/Skills
  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in accessibility or a related area, preferably in the education technology sector; desirable certifications include DHS Trusted Tester, CPACC, WAS or CPWA
  • In-depth knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and Section 508; familiarity with accessibility techniques in native mobile applications
  • Proficiency in modern technologies, including, but not limited to, ARIA, HTML, JavaScript, React, and Bootstrap
  • Experience with assistive technologies across multiple platforms, including screen readers, magnification, and read-aloud tools
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with a passion for creating inclusive, user-friendly digital products.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working with vendors and contractors across multiple time zones
  • Comfortably train teams and individuals on accessibility
