Accountant, Cost Rates & Recharge Full Description

We are seeking a professional contributor to join the Rate and Recharge Shared Service Center within Purdue’s Cost Accounting Office. This position is responsible for delivering high-quality, professional-level accounting services that are critical to achieving the unit’s operational goals.

The primary focus of the role is to provide expertise in the development and monitoring of internal and external rates for Purdue’s recharge and general service centers, as well as various miscellaneous rates. The position also supports the oversight of operational controls and governance associated with these rate systems. In addition, the role may occasionally assist with payroll and effort reporting compliance monitoring and data analysis.

This position will also participate in the operations, reporting, and internal controls related to the federal Facilities & Administrative (F&A) cost study, which generates over $115 million annually.

The individual will be responsible for reviewing and coaching the work of other professionals, including Business Office staff, Assistant Directors of Financial Affairs (ADFAs), and Directors of Financial Affairs (DFAs).

Excellent customer service is essential, as the role involves frequent interaction with university business offices, central offices, senior management, and external stakeholders.
This position is fully remote.

What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or related field.
  • 4+ experience in cost accounting, accounting or business management experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience can be considered
 
Skills needed:
  • Demonstrate technical knowledge of accounting and cost accounting practices and use that knowledge to analyze, interpret, and implement various Federal and University policies and procedures regarding cost accounting
  • Knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance and the ability to communicate cost accounting issues to non-technical constituencies such as faculty, legislators, and the public. Advanced working knowledge of Excel
  • Demonstrated customer service focus
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and timely communicate directions, updates, decisions, answers, and other information, with accuracy, professionalism, and tact
  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately use and apply technology to accomplish work activities
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, balancing workload to effectively complete assignments in a multi-task and multi-deadline environment

What is helpful:
