The College of Western Idaho (CWI) is seeking a Senior Accountant to support both the College and the CWI Foundation through expert financial reporting, reconciliation, and strategic analysis.

Strategic Financial Leadership: 
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and assist with CWI Foundation budgeting 
  • Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures 
  • Perform general ledger reconciliations and journal entries for both the College and Foundation 
Impactful Work in Higher Education & Nonprofit Finance: 
  • Manage grant accounting from award to closeout in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations 
  • Monitor and report on investment activity and cash balances 
  • Ensure accurate recording of donations and adherence to donor intent 
Collaborative & Compliance-Focused Environment: 
  • Work closely with College staff, faculty, and the Foundation team 
  • Prepare audit-ready financial statements and support annual 990 filings 
  • Maintain expertise in GAAP, FASB standards, and IRS charitable contribution regulations 

Key Responsibilities: 
Financial Reporting & Analysis 
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports 
  • Assist in developing the CWI Foundation budget 
  • Reconcile accounts including cash, bonds, receivables, and fixed assets 
Grant & Donation Accounting 
  • Perform full-cycle grant accounting 
  • Record and administer all types of donations, including restricted and deferred gifts 
  • Ensure compliance with donor intent and audit standards 
Audit & Compliance Support 
  • Prepare work papers and financial statements for annual audits 
  • Assist with the College’s audit and 990 tax filing 
  • Maintain documentation for audit and reporting purposes 

What We’re Looking For: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (required) 
  • Minimum 2 years of nonprofit/FASB accounting experience (required) 
  • Experience with account reconciliation, financial analysis, and year-end audits 
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, FASB standards, and internal controls 
  • Experience in grants and investment accounting (preferred) 
  • Knowledge of IRS charitable contribution regulations and CASE standards (preferred) 
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and organized 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment 
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills 

Additional Instructions For Applicants: 
Most positions at CWI are in-person and based on campus. While some roles may allow up to two remote workdays per week, eligibility for remote work is determined on a case-by-case basis at the hiring manager's discretion. All candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance from CWI. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
